Question for Fishless

I also have Heritage Lakers. Did you bend back the part that holds the flag in the down position? Did you get more windflags? Can you post pix?

Re: Question for Fishless

Heritage lakers can be adjusted from very heavy to very light quite easily.

The spring that holds the flag rod to the main body rotates inside the main body.

Grab the base of the spring with a pair of pliers and spin it so it has the sprung pressure pulling the flag rod out of the trigger. Turn it the other way when fishing BIG bait so the spring holds the rod in tighter.
It is infinitely adjustable so you can get it just where you want it.

Take a small fine file and check the trigger for burrs and smooth the release point out a bit

Also on the metal spooled lakers remove that stupid cranking handle from the outside of the spool it offsets the weight and makes them wobble. Grab with pliers and pop it out.

Re: Question for Fishless

bend the catch up so that hook shaped piece allows a smooth release, if you are getting wind flags, turn the spring like yoadrien recommended and it will create more resistance but wont have that awkward click trigger that they have when new. if you bend that part down it hangs up on the trigger mechanism when the wire rides up, so bend it up instead. i have heritage traps and big bobs. i like those big bob traps better with the gentle release and they dont have the wind problem as much. those heritage traps get ice in the spring part as well with certian conditions so you need to watch for that as well.

Re: Re: Question for Fishless

Thanks guys. I'll mess with turning the spring while I'm out today.
