My father and I had a chance to go Tuna Fishing with Paul from WLNH. We had a blast on our Tuna/Striper Combo trip with Labrador Fishing Charters. The highlight was boating a nice 250# Tuna. We caught him on a Penn 120 series never took the rod out of the holder just cranked and used the boat to get this pig in. It was like cranking your boat on to the trailer than letting it roll back into the lake and than do it again for about 45 minutes!!!! We ran the big reels because they caught a 750 the week before and that can be a chore on a stand up rod and reel runing 50's. What a battle getting this thing to the boat, we would get him close and than see ya he would spool out line, it felt like he was just toying with me!
Tuna fishing is so fun I'm glad I'm busy on the lake because I would be getting right back out there again. If anyone wants to get out there give Don a call from Labrador Charter's a awseome guy who knows his stuff! The Tuna are around big time... 781-293-3115
This is my Dad with the BIG BOY..........
Paul and I we both cranked on this monster to get him in the boat!
Now thats fishing!! Salt salt salt, Roofys dad just returned from the canyons and will be dropping off tuna steaks tommorro night at my house!!!! Yummie!
Trav, that's an awesome fish! We caught a 140lb tuna on the Reel Catch last week, that's big enough to put a serious hurting on you! We haven't experienced anything bigger than that yet. They say it's like catching a VW bug doing 60 mph with twine. Must have been quite a rush.
Awsome fish Travis! You tuna guys are giving me thoughts that I really shouldn,t be thinking. But if I ever find a tuna outfit at a yard sale I,m in. hmmm Cal P.
This was an awesome trip! Catching one of these guys is a total blast. I never turned one crank on the reel but being there and the adrenelin rush with this size fish on gets everyone on the boat involved clearing lines and such!
Fresh tuna is great table fare as well as some nice sushi which we ate ate dock as we prepared fish for trip back home.
Labrador Charters and Capt. Don Campbell are top notch and would not hesitate to recommend.
We also caught a bunch of stripers after we had tuna in boat.
Now I know why C.C. and the rest of you guys like the salt so much!
Nice BFT and great trip! What a fishery this is right off our coast. Have been taking the Talewalker offshore from the Cape - have done great on keeper bass but luck has been spotty on tuna. Went out sunday and went 0 for 2 on fish that broke off after long fights (heartbreaking). Did manage a nice 62" BFT 2 weeks ago after being skunked for tuna the previous 4 trips. It's phenomenal eating. Only problem is trailering between the Cape and the camp at Winni which is a real PIA! Had a flat on the trailer on the way home last weekend...not fun...
We trailer down to Glouchester, from there it is about 13 miles to the northwest corner of stellwagon and about 30 miles out to the southwest corner.
We have been out 3 times for tuna, have caught 2 both about the same size. One on the northwest and one on the southwest (about 5 miles off Provincetown).
It truly is awesome out there, the amount of life you see is incredible.
Sure you guys - post pictures like that while I am stuck in a conference room in Boston for 10-12 hours a day. Nice Fish!!! How many sammiches can you make out of one of those bad boys LOL?
