Weekend fishing report

I thought I would start giving back to this site and the wonderful crew of fisherman who post. I have spent the last few years as a tar with the boat at Great Bay Marina chasing stripers. I have since brought her back to Winni and resolved myself to really learning how to fish for salmon. This site has been invaluable and a huge reason I am really enjoying the move.

At any rate, I fished Friday night, Saturday & Sunday morning. Good overall bite. 10+ fish boated with a bunch of dropped hook ups. Not real big fish, save a nice laker at about 24". Mostly small salmon but really healthy and acrobatic. All fish caught between 35' and 42' on the riggers with orange/black dot NH guide, pink/hologram DB smelt, and green/blue DB smelt...except one nice rainbow on a white perch fly. The rainbow was a tagged fish from the derby, first one I have ever boated. Tight lines!!!!!

Welcome to the "post" section of the site Sea Chord. I was wondering how the striper bite is on the Pisquataqua? Last two times I was out there (this year), I was disapointed.

Re: Weekend fishing report

I've heard it's been a tough year for the stripers. Always did OK at General Sullivan and up river to the Navy yard. Guys I fished with in the past have had a rough go at it, best luck at the mouth of the Merrimack if you can handle the chop and traffic. Bait is scarce now but west side of Star island still produces.

Re: Weekend fishing report

Thanks, I have experienced just about word for word what you just said. There was some bait (early) near 2KR Sat.
Thanks again.

Re: Weekend fishing report

Best drift for me was the navy yard and soon after I am told to stay waaaaay back from the navy police!! As soon as we do the drift stinks. 95 bridge allways produces but boat trafic stinks too. Better off in the merrimack or run waaaay out for ground fishing.
