1st Annual Frostbite Fleet Salmon Shootout

Hope everybody is well here. I have been without a PC for awhile and certainly missed this site.
I just wanted to share with everyone how our 1st ever winter salmon event went.
It started off as nothing more than an idea and a lot of skeptics, after all it is hunting season or close to it. They said I would never even get 10 people at best.
You have to understand that there is a group of hard core anglers on Lake Champlain that have been fishing from the months over November right up until you can no longer get a boat in the water. It is not unusual to see shovels sticking out of rod holders and everyone carries a few buckets of sand with them for launch and recovery duty.
The fishing is spectacular this time of year as all those hungry salmon coming out of the rivers are feeding heavily and a slow day sees around 12 fish where a hot day could be 50 or more.
The idea was a 1 day shootout at 20.00 bucks a man with each weighing in their 2 biggest salmon. 1st through 3rd payout and a prize for big fish.(IDI Artic Armor suit)The ones that float.
We ended up with 66 anglers and 25 boats and the day was perfect sunny with less than a foot chop. We raised 220.00 dollars for outdoor education which will be used for either children's clinics, lifetime licenses or conservation camp scholarships.
Here are some pics of that day. We also put an 18 inch minimum length on all fish weighed.
Ron(Digitroll)Don(Shaydewinds)Todd(Crazy Ivan) waiting in line to launch. Everyone was great at the launch and I believe it went so smoothly because of great attitudes and the anglers experience level with launch and recovery.

Close to starting time. Everyone was great about the start and it went very smoothly.

The start!

Here is a closer look at the beautiful one of a kind trophy that Randy Colomb made just for this event. Pictures really cannot capture how incredible it really is! Thanks a million Randy!! You are a character and I,m happy to have meant you. My hopes are to do this with you and lot's of other great people for years to come.

WOW!!!

The prize table

Cannot thank Pam enough. She was the glue that held everything together. She busted butt and kept us organized, fed and in line at all times. I don't think I will ever do another event without her. Thanks Pam!!

Thanks to all of our sponsors.

Pam working as usual

Nice Rainbow! This was the 1st boat that came in, and unfortunately he and his son were not in our event. Great people though. This was a very chunky Rainbow and the pic doesn't do it any justice. It was pushing 4lbs easy!!

When I took this pic I did not realize that these would end up being the winning fish or the winning angler. Great job!!

Early Bird with a nice pair of 21 inch+ LC salmon. And enough to get him the 2nd place prize of almost 300.00. Not bad for 6 hours of fishing and fun. Great job!

Frank(Fishin Machine)Kurant with his 3rd place winning fish. Way to go Frank. I hope it's ok I used this pic. ;)

This was a day that most of us will never forget, but for this guy it was the day of a lifetime. He won everything. The grand prize(500.00), the 400.00 I.D.I Artic Armor suit and a 100.00 custom trolling rod from Fish 307. Oh and did I mention the trophy!!

Our top 3 with the man who started this whole winter fishing phenomenon "Randy Colomb. Thank you so much Randy.
