Re: Boat question/advice

Mike, I bought my Lund Classic 1625 five years ago and find it to be very family friendly. It is nice and deep so the kids have to literally crawl over the side to fall out...I found the Rebel to be more shallow which is why I didn't go for that model. My only complaint is it's maxed out at a 40HP for that hull. Since then, they've put out the Classic SS which can handle a 60HP. My only need for more HP is the kids are at an age now where they want to tube behind it. It is also only rated for 5 ppl and it's not uncommon that I need to put 6 in it for pleasure cruising.

I will be upgrading at some point in the next 5 years. I bass fish too but want to get an all around boat that I can troll with and take the kids tubing in. Probably looking to get something 18-20 foot. The ProV looks great but too expensive...maybe the Fisherman.

Re: Boat question/advice

Buy the biggest motor you can swing I have a Lund fishermen 1800 and it came with a 140 4 stroke which I thought would be a great motor all around but it turned out it had great top end speed but poor low end power I had to drop 2 pitch sizes to get a half way good hole shot.If I would have been told before I bought the boat that the 4 stroke was not good for low end power I would have gotten a 150 2 stroke they are cheaper than the 4 stroke also. So make sure you ask your self what you would prefer low end or speed.See what the dealer say about this also. That was the only thing that I screwed up on when I bought my boat Just something for you to think about. Good luck and let us know what you ended up with.

Re: Boat question/advice

I bought a Four Winn fish/ski package with a 115 Honda.
Has great trolling performance and great for water skiing. I'm not sure how the prices compare.
We had looked at the Lunds, but the Four Winn appeared to be a more family friendly, but also great for fishing. It also came with the electric motor.

Re: Boat question/advice

Look at the Smoker Craft - combination fish and ski

Re: Boat question/advice

As far as Lund durability goes I have a 1986 Lund Tyee 17 footer and I keep it in the water all summer long. It has an aluminum riveted hull. That boat does not leak a drop of water! Hows that for durability? I plan to keep it for 20 more years.

Re: Boat question/advice

i would keep the current boat and add another, the only boat ive liked that does both family and fishes well is a big pontoon like john sampson has and you would still want your current boat for bass fishing.

Re: Boat question/advice

I too would recommend looking at a Pontoon if you have any interest in one at all. I bought one last fall and with alot of help from guys on here, set it up very well for fishing. I have 3 young kids so when i am done fishing with the guys I can strip the fishing stuff(riggers, rod holders etc) down in less than 5 minutes. I stowe it under the seats, set up the tube and take the family out. The toon has fit our needs perfectly. Mine is 22' with a 90 hp Johnson and seats 12...

Re: Boat question/advice

Thanks everyone for all the input.....I think I am going to look into the Four Winns Fish-n-Ski. I need something that trailers easily as I don't live on a body of water, and would like to fish different places. That kind of eliminates the Pontoon boat.

Re: Boat question/advice

Everytime you add a foot it makes a huge difference.I had a 17.5 ft fish and ski sea nymph it did everything I wanted it to do except when I went to lake O.I had to pick my day's waiting for good weather.I now have a 19 ft (18.6 inch)starcraft islander. It is a foot wider and has very, very deep sides. It almost seems like twice the space even though it is only 13 inches more.I am also out of the weather better than the fish and ski(it had a full canopy but was open in the center below the glass)this provided a good cold wind path in the spring.I really enjoy the extra comfort of the cuddy up front.Good luck.polebreaker

Mike,
I don't know where you are, but I'm in Holderness, and you can come and see my set up (Four Winn)whenever you have a chance.
