Kind of a funny story. My daughter, as you can see, is 5 months old. I bought her a pink tip-up for Valentines Day and this was our first trip north after I bought it.
I unwrapped it that morning and set it with a tiny smelt, probably 1 1/2" to 2" long and walked away. By the time I got to the bob house the flag was up. When I got back to the trap the reel was singing as you can imagine and the fight was on. It was about a 20-25 minute fight and I had to be real careful. I bought the pink trap at Wildlife Taxidermy here in Manchester and it was already set up with line, leader, sinker and hook and I never touched it. I had no idea what test line I had or anything else. Each time I got to the leader the fish took off like a shot but finally after about 10 tries I got the head in the hole and slowly lifted while reaching down and grabbing the gil plate and throwing it away from the hole.
The fish is at the Taxidermist now to be mounted and it will hang at the camp in Pittsburg. It was a good start to a great vacation week.
And thanks Misty Morning for posting the pic. I tried for quite a while last night.
Ok, I've been negligent in checking the board since the Derby last year and I come back jealous! Nice Fish! I just picked up a pink trap a couple months ago for my 4 month old daughter but I was told I couldn't use it now until she's old enough to go fishing with me! Glad to see I won't be the only one corrupting my daughter with fishing!
I saw those pink traps at wildlife taxidermy. Obviously I should have bought one.
We bought 4 Pink rods and reels at AJ's for my grandaughters, would I be an Idian giver if I took em back. But maybe I better let them keep em and take them fishing so I can run 4 lines this year ???????
