Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

Great Gathering, new place was a winner, some people won somne nice raffal prizes, plenty of vendors and good seminars on Champlain and Ontario.

If anyone is interested in 2 rod and reel combos loaded up with 10 colors of lead, let me know, I will sell them and donate the money to the Kyle Memorial Fund. Also have a free entry to the LCI on Champlain for sale, I'll donate that to the Memorial as well.

Well looks like it will be 1 LINE/PER ANGLER, right from Steve Perry (F and G) mouth at The Gathering we need to get to the Proposal Hearings when announced and oppose this.

NHSA is proposing 2 rods for the "lone angler" and 1 rod per for each additional angler on board.

Guides Association is recomending 1 rod per angler/only proposal being considered right now.

But you can write, e mail Fish and Game on your own and tell them what you want, no changes, 1 rod, 2 rods, etc, also any other ideas you have. THEY WANT TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE. If you think drastic changes should be for Winni only, let them know that as well.

I'll get the e mail address and post them here, but remember the "only" proposal as far as number of rods right now that is on the table is the Guides, 1 ROD/PER ANGLER.

NHSA will formaly recomend the "2 for the lone angler" and 1 extra for each additional angler on board.

Let Fish and Game them know what you want, if no noise is made, right now it will be "1 rod per angler", period.

MAKE SURE WE ARE HEARD AT THE HEARING, PLAN TO BE THERE.

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

I thought of a good question of course while driving home yesterday. "is it possible we have an 'overreaction' going on in regards to cutting line amounts"? I saw a nicley done graph of 4 yrs of data yesterday, im wondering what that graph would look like if it was blown out to a 20 year graph? would it have up down swings (like a mutual-fund graph)? or a weather graph? If so, then could we be having a knee jerk reaction to something that will correct itsself in time now that other things are being looked at?

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

If Fish and Game is zero'd in on taking away 2 rods per trolling angler to reduce the 6-8 line sets on boats, then the Guides Assocition should really consider looking at the reccomendation from NHSA because not only is that livable to most, but that would help there business's attract more bookings as well.

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

John,

you may want to change your wording from (2 for the lone angler) to "2 lines for the First angler on board). They could get funky with the word "lone". once you have a guest on board, your no longer alone.

A few ways of looking at it I suppose, our thinking was for a "lone" angler to drive 2 hours or so, to put out 1 line aint very good and most likely aint happeneing.

There are more lone anglers and small boats in the state than say bigger boats, etc. While many of us like to fish with buddies, allot of people like the solitude of fishing alone or don't always have an oppertunity to fish with others..

So we figured the lone angler might represent a much bigger majority and get the F and G to do look at what's best for the for the little guys, guys that like to fish alone, the majority of anglers in the state.

Let's face it, how many guys will travel to Winni (or other major lakes) to fish for 1 line, we don't think that is F and G ultimate goal here. Let's face it, it's the boats that run 6 or 8 lines or more that they are targetting. Personanly, I don't think there are that many people that run more than 6 lines, probably more like 4 is a good average. But many single anglers run 2.

I hear what you are saying and if the majority want the wording changed, maybe the NHSA would consider it, but by all means send in your in "own proposal", it's no harder than making a post here.

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

I like NHSA idea... fair for single fisherman (who has a long travel) and it won't destroy the fishing economy at lakes region... and fair for larger boats with 3 or 4 guys onboard also.. if someone buys a license they should be able to fish 1 rod regardless.

HI John I might be interested in the 2 lead core fishing combo's you have. I'm looking for 2 with line counter reels for my 14 foot Lund boat. Can you tell me what type they are and how much you want for them. I was at the gathering also in Belmont when you won all that stuff your a lucky guy by the looks. Let me know how much you want for both combo's. Tom

Not sure what they are, yet I'll get back you after I check em out, they were wrapped in plastic.

"Better to be lucky than good", that saying goes a long way in life.

I had bought 2 tickets for a friend and a guy gave me 4 more, I wrote the names (glad I did) on the back and one of mine won.

They are Eagel Claw 8.5 foot medium action rods 8 to 10 lb test, Reels are new Eagle Claw JC600-30d, will hold 10 colors of lead core, there is no lead on them, sorry my mistake. .

It's for a good cause, after Tom Colvin has the first right to refusal, the 1st 100.00 takes the both of them.

Travis, please take the LCI entry fee money and give it to the Kyle Memorial fund, thanks. I can't possibly make it so put it to a good cause.

Just seems to me the 1 line proposal is only going half way if it is only for the open water season. Why not go all the way and propose it for the hard water season also?

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

HI John how much do you want for both and are both counter reels

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

I know this might ruffle a few feathers and I WILL email or write my suggestion to fish game.
First off I do ice fish but this needs to be put out there. If the F&G is going to take the 2 open water rods away they should also take the 2 traps for ice fishing away and limit that to one also. I believe there is alot more ice fishing going on than trolling. How can the Rotary ice derby go UNMENTIONED in all this???? It seems political to me, maybe not 100 percent political but somethings not even here, for it to not even be discussed. I say leave it as is, each angler 2 rods, each ice fisherman 2 traps, otherwise play the same rules. Just my .02 and yes I will send it along to F&G.

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

The only problem with that suggestion is that the average ice fisherman is not traveling the distance a boat in open water is, Winnipesaukee is a big lake and when I ice fish I'm covering 1 percent or less of the lake than when open water trolling.

Brian

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

true, but multiply that by the number of ice fishermen compared to the amount of guys trolling. Not sure on the #'s but open water trolling fishermen are definetly fewer by a large margin!

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

Last two rods are sold, Joe G contact me, I have some money for the Memorial. Or maybe Trv can give it to you and I'll give it to him ?

Two rods I won 100.00
LCI entry I think 40.00

140.00 for a good cause.

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

I'll hook you up with a big hunk of sword or tuna. Maybe I could troll with you some time this spring and I'll give it to you then. Joe

You don't have to do that, but if you insist, I prefer shrimp, lol.

I'm always looking for fishing partners on The Barge, I'll be in touch. If we can't hook up, I can send you a check for the Memorial fund.

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

No problem. Shrimp it is

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

Thank you John. That's very generous of you. You're a good man.

Re: Gathering, F and G hearing and Fin Clipping, etc

Does anyone have a specific email address at Fish and Game that we should write to? I want my email going to the "right person" not just any person. There must be someone in charge of organizing public response...
