William Douglas to Canada 1775

Looking for info on William's ancestors, William sailed to Prince Edward Island Canada in 1775 aboard the Lovley Nellie, from Dumfriesshire, Scotland. He was the youngest of 7 brothers the rest apparently moving on to Nova Scotia. He was married to Catherine Miller of Covehead PEI and they had 10 known children.William died in Feb of 1835 at the age of 85. Am looking to find where William came from.Family stories say that When leaving home with the other 6 brothers, who settled in Nova Scotia, their mother said, "yea will gang away and come back as fools". William is said to have left at home his mother and a sister.

Re: William Douglas to Canada 1775

I have not much to add, but have the following recorded: Douglas, William, aged 21. B. 1754. Labourer. Kirkbean. Galloway. From Dumfries to Prince Edward Island, May 1775 on the "Lovely Nelly".
Also on board were
James Douglas 57 wife Jannet and son James 8 from New Abbey
John Douglas 25 Labourer from Kirkboan, Galloway
and Robert Douglas described as 'To be shipped at Whitehaven Run away' (Did he run away beofre boarding - or go because hed had run away?

If William travelled with his siblings, there only appears to be one lised here, so not sure how the others made the journey.

The reason for the families going was given as being 'to get more bread' - in Scotland they were almost destitute.
