I am trying to find out about Alexander Douglas who was born in Scotland in 1586 and moved accross the border into England in the retinue of James 1st and settled in Reeth, Yorkshire.
I have traced my ancestry back to him but have "hit a brick wall".
Can anyone please help me?
One would have thought that if he was in King James' retinue, and if he were granted land, he must have done something special, and so would be more prominent in history. Also, how did King James come by the bit of land that he so generously gave away? However, we have no such detail.
