My Grandfather James McGuffog came to Australia in 1864, he was born in Kirkpatrick Durham Scotland in 1845. I have traced his decendancy from William McGuffog and Agnes Hunter who are my 3rd gt grandparents William died also at Kirkpatrick Durham in 1813 he is my brickwall, I have been trying to find out what clan we would belong to and have found varying informat as to whether it would be the Douglas or the McFie I have found the name spelt in many variations just in these few generations both clans seem to lay claim to the McGuffog name so I was wondering how this is decided and whether I would be a Douglas follower of a McFee follower what decides this,
