Its been quite a while since I made a post to the forum. I am mightily relieved that you are well. I liked your post.

I worked hard to get back to Kanton, actually booking passage with Pacific Expeditions but it simply did not work out.(That was in 2009) At least my wife and I did buy a home in Hawai'i Kai that gets me within striking range!!

I've spent time since then trying to develop interest in setting up small wind turbines on the atoll. I calculated that with about 3-4 17kw turbines, sufficient power would be available to provide power for lighting and refrigeration in the remaining bungalows that were occupied. The units would also power a few small seawater pumps to supply feedwater to watermakers that would help insure a steady (albeit limited) supply of potable water to the populace. With the feedwater pumps would also be seawater for the toilets. (if you have any ideas in this area, I am all ears!)

Larger wind turbines would be better but 17kw seems about the right size to set up without the use of cranes.

I (as do so many who have written) miss the days on Kanton (Canton). As you may recall, I worked on Hull for part of time and was amazed to learn that you were born on such a lovely, picture postcard setting.

I just wanted to let you know that you have made an enormous inspirational effect on me with your remarkable life.
