I looked up Canton Island after a conversation with my father about the time we spent there. I was astounded when the name Paul Laxton caught my eye. Reading more I realized that Hilary Kerrod and her brother were my playmates in the scrubby stand of trees that was our forest. I remember John teaching me the game of chess and eating sardine sandwiches made on bread from Mrs. Laxton's kitchen as we sat in the trees. What a suprise; what a carefree childhood and Hilary was right; we dared not misbehave for surly we would be found out and set right!
