After perusal of the two volumes on Apollonius of Tyana that are available from the Loeb Classics collection, I am more of the opinion that the life of Apollonius of Tyana, who was a contemporary of Jesus and also a healer and wonder worker, was a blueprint for the evangelists.
There are so many striking parallels and what's more important, of Apollonius there is direct evidence, letters from and to Emperors and Consulary dignitaries, evidence to be read still today. He lived as a very wise man in the same period as Jesus would have lived, but neither of the two mention each other. Still, Apollonius travelled throughout the Mediterranean, visited the holy adepts of India and the Gymnosophists of Egypt. Tried to converse with any holy or wise man, but never encountered a man called Jesus.
