college loan and divorce

I was wondering if anyone ever heard of the ex paying for some or all of a college loan in a divorce?
I was not able to get any financial aid because of my ex's income was too high, but now that we are not together, I am stuck with an 18,000 loan that I cannot afford to pay. I put aside going to school to raise my kids and even though i didnt put my husband through college, I gave my own needs up so that he can get to where he is at his job. It just doesn't seem fair.

Re: college loan and divorce

Everything in divorce is negotiable. I have a friend who divorced 2 years ago. It was in the divorce papers that the ex pay for her to get her master's....for pretty much the same reason...she stayed home for many years and cared for the kids while her career was put on the back burner.

Check into getting a hardship forebarance from the lender. Most schools allow you to refinance if you can prove that you are going through hard times.
