Re: Feelings of guilt

Lea
He said if I gave him sex more (which we haven't done in over a year) he wouldn't be out gambling.

I hope you don't take this seriously. I believe each person in a marriage has an OBLIGATION to be available sexually to their spouse. However, he is responsible for his own actions. Screwing him more often wouldn't stop his gambling addiction.

That said, either divorce him or start having sex again. You need to make a decision on whether you are going to stay in the marriage or leave. If it is leave, take action. If it is stay, start having sex again and insist on him getting appropriate treatment and you both going to couples counseling.

Half measures and being wishy washy about it will only prolong the pain.

Re: Feelings of guilt

NO GUILT!! How nice for him to have issues and blame bipolar, you... No, he must take responsibility for his own actions. If he blames his bipolar, say he must get better meds then and he'll be fine. If he says have sex and he'll stop, you tell him stop and maybe he'll get sex. He sounds so typical of making excuses, not taking any responsibility, it's always something or someone 'making' him do what he does. Yeah right, it's a bunch of garbage. Don't know how long you've been married but I'm at almost 20 years and it has been excuse after excuse and blame everywhere except on him and you know what... enough. He likes to gamble? Call his bluff. How do you get through this without a breakdown? Get into therapy if you can. If you can't afford it, go to Al-Anon meetings. They are free. Sure they are more for alcohol/drug addictions but you don't have to talk and if you just listen you can still get insight and support. In my opinion an addiction is an addiction. If it's gambling instead of alcohol, it counts, the underlying personality issues are the same. Get whatever support you can wherever you can. You NEED to know NONE of this is your fault, none of it has to do with anything you do (or don't do). That's just his way of not accepting responsibility (after all, that's hard) and it's totally not fair he puts it on you.
