Settlements

My husband and I were awaiting the final verdict for a settlement in which he was injured. After the accident, he left me. I have now been served with divorce papers for a final hearing in court. Is it legal to be served divorce papers if the previous settlement hasn't been resolved?

Re: Settlements

I'm guessing their's probably nothing illegal about it. However, ethical? probably not that!
Sounds as if it is coming as a shock.
MAYBE he is doing this at this time on purpose for confusion & that he walks with most of the money.
I would be sure to get as much legal counsel as possible right now.
sorry you are going through all of this..
divorce is so difficult.

Re: Settlements

If you are legally married at the time the settlement is received you are entitled to your half. If you are divorced you will not be entitled to any of it. Make sure you send a copy of your divorce proceedings to the insurance company he is dealing with for the settlement, you will also want your attorney to file a lein against this settlement on your behalf.
