If you have children and have shared custody then you'll want to live closer to have easy access to your children.

Running away from things is not always the best idea. Things get better as time goes by.

That's a pretty judgemental reply 'many thoughts.' 'Running away from things' if there's been any abuse (we don't know if there has been), is often absolutely the most appropriate course of action. It can save lives.
'Things get better as time goes by...' - Again, that depends doesn't it?

If there's no abyse involved, then it's healthier potentially in the long-run for kids to maintain a healthy ongoing relationship with both parents. That why, fostered children are often supported to maintain contact with at least one biological parent (even if contact visits have to be supervised in a room).

Maybe the poster wants to 'run towards' support (like a supportive extended family that lives out of state).
