Thinking about divorce at 63 years old

Married for 36 yrs and after an stupid same argument that goes once every 6 months or so through out our marriage this time my husband said to me “I am lucky to be alive”
And I am planning to file for divorce without him knowing because now I am afraid of him.
Since he have an unpredictable personality , controlling and bad temper ,I am afraid he will do something to harm me 😧
Through out our marriage we had up and down and I feel that I cannot handle him anymore.
I am sick and tired of him.
He owes guns and he is very moody too.
I am not young either but I cannot live my life in peace with him.
He always like to win an argument even though he knows he is wrong.
If I do not agree with him he will go Crazy.

I had thoughts of leaving him many times… but this time he went too far.

Should I just file without telling him ??

Your opinions will be helpful

Thank you in advance

Re: Thinking about divorce at 63 years old

Find a shelter in your hometown and seek counsel with them. They can help ensure you stay safe and may be able to point you to resources that will guide you in filing, etc. Keep it to yourself and get your ducks in a row.

Yes, I agree find a woman's shelter and find a therapist. I would not say anything to him about my plans. You absolutely don't need to spend your remaining years, as it goes by so quickly, with someone that stresses you and you are afraid of. I am 70 and going through the same except I am not afraid of potential bodily harm from him.

Hi Karen
I am afraid of him with his outburst and I know he will not bodily harm me but you never know
Right ?
Specially when he looses his temper
Thank you
