In an abusive relationship

I'm trying to encourage myself to file for divorce. I've been wanting a divorce since I realized my husband is an abuser including a child abuser. I'm ,also, experiencing financial abuse because he likes to control all the finances. My fears have always stop me from taking action because I've always heard of divorce being financially and emotionally draining. Since I have adult children, I need courage to get out of the controls of my manipulating husband and move on with my life. I need a divorce coach or referrals to excellent divorce lawyers in San Mateo County, California. I have no idea how to start and a good divorce coach or lawyer can point me in the right direction. Please reply if you can help.

Re: In an abusive relationship

Firstly, I'm so sorry you've been going through this, no one deserves to be mistreated in what was supposed to be a loving relationship. Know that you deserve to be loved, to be treated well and to be happy.

1. Create an exit plan - organise your finances, find a place to live and pack the things you want to take with you. Then search online for the lawyer you need to make a clean break and start the proceedings when you have finances etc. in order.

2. Talk to your children - let them know what is going on and be honest and open with them. You might be surprised to find they will be supportive of your decision and act as a support network for you.

3. Talk to other women who have been through the same thing, it really helps to know what others have been through so you know you're not alone, join a support group, start a coffee morning, whatever you need to surround yourself around others who understand.

It's going to be a long road ahead, but YOU CAN DO IT. Your marriage sounds like it's been the hardest part. But this stage will be a relief once you start and get going. You must do what is right for you and just know that you WILL be happy again.

I wish you all the best my love, hang in there ❤️

Dear Alex,

You made my day with your inspiring message. You are a Guardian Angel who is sent from heaven. Thanks for sending me such a lovely message.

I've been seriously wanting to file for divorce for quite sometime. I'm more motivated than ever because I want to move on with my life. After many efforts like talking to lawyers, doing my own investigations, researching, etc ... I'm still in the same position of not filing.

I feel like I need more of a divorce coach or advicer to point me in the right direction and inspire me. I'm having difficulties finding the right divorce attorney to fit my criteria and finances. I'm feel like I'm walking in circles and not accomplishing anything. Fears maybe obstructing my goals, also. I feel stuck! Thanks for listening and being like a friend to me.

You Are In My Prayer,
