Hi. I'm just getting used to this website. Its a bit bewildering. Grace, do you do this for a business or just for fun? Looks like it must be a business. Good for you.
Well, Grandpop Metz.On thing I will recall tonight. This is bg (before Grace) Matter of fact, its before Rachele too I think. It was during the war, Henry was in Montana in CPS. He shot this great big deer, Grace you have probably seen it all your life, and had it shipped home by freight. I can recall Grandpop opening that crate in the front room of the old homestead. That was a sight for me. I was probably five or six at the time.
I suspect that the younger children were more in awe of Grandpop than I was. Although he was not a conversationalist with the younger set, I liked to be around him. You could tell when he was amused, because his eyes twinkled. Grammy was a small woman, rather round of face and build. Much less reserved than Grandpop, smiled a lot more. My Mom called her every day on the phone. She died when I was sixteen. Pretty devastating for Grandpop.
Another of my early memories has to do with Uncle Titus who died of leukemia at about age 40. My Dad was employed by him for a while during the war. I recall waiting for my Dad to finish up his farm chores for the evening. Titus gave me a 10 dollar bill to give to my Dad when he came to the car. I guess that was a weeks pay at the time. This would have been about 1943 or 44. Another memory from that time was going down to the creek, (this farm is now part of the country club at Mainland) and getting scared practically witless by a huge black snake down by the bridge.
Enough for now, more will probably come to mind later.
