Re: Lovell

what league are they in? It's their first year around...

Is it easy to find good teams to play against you when you\'re a new team? What league is lovell academy in?
If they were any good, they would be in the NEGHL. Wizz would crush them.
Their talent (or lack thereof) has no bearing on whether or not they are in the NEGHL. I am a long-time Wizz parent and, though we are very happy and will go nowhere else, I will tell you that league membership is INCREDIBLY political. I haven't been with ECW since they played in Dracut, but we joined shortly afterward. So I have seen a lot over the years I have watched all three of SF kids play there.

I can tell you with certainty that program membership has little to nothing to do with program strength and much more about geographic location. The league doesn't want a new team playing within a certain radius of an older (NEGHL) team. Otherwise, they would be competing for the same kids. Those programs that do slide into a geographic overlap tend to have connections that allowed them entrance; the owner of the program went to school with or has done business with someone on the board who advocated for them.

So please don't imply that skill is the reason they aren't with us, because that's simply a political thing. Just leave it at, the Wizz would crush them, because we would. Lovell would have a good game vs our 2s though ;)

This is the truth - NEGHL is incredibly political and it mainly benefits 3 teams at the top of the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels. It has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with protecting those 3 clubs.

It\\\'s always good to have an alternative to prep. My problem is this. If you are paying 50 or 60k for a full season hockey academy then you should be playing 60 games a year agaisnt the best teams in the country. Think NAHA. They play a 70 game tier 1 schedule against the best teams in the country. Lovell has a problem as they dont/can\\\'t play in the NEGHL. If you aren\\\'t playing the Wizz,BJE, Spits, Breakers, Vipers etc then who are you playing? You can\\\'t play VJW 100 times. 60 grand should include playing in the 6 biggest tournaments in the country.
I see Lovell 14s played in the tier 1 bracket at Detroit this past weekend and had a respectable record of 2 -2. Losing 3-1 to LC and 1 zip to Pittsburgh is a good showing. Those are 2 of the best in the country. More of that is what they need.
but the U14 team is ranked above Breakers and Vipers... and right behind the others you list. Lovell has the right idea of being more independent - NEGHL is not the answer.
Then start playing some real teams! You have played 2 tough teams the entire year. That's what 60k gets you? Playing Syracuse, Long Island and Valley Junior 5x a piece isn't making you any better.
So if you are correct, then are the U14 Wizards improving this year?
in ten league games, they are 9-0-1 with 46 goals for and 8 against. Is this good competition? Not sure beating the Flames 9-0 does much for them, right?

They win agaisnt the good teams when they need to. On MHR it looks like the beat 2MN teams, Top 5 Canadian team, Little Caesars, Philly and Pittsburgh. Tied BJE who has to be the most inconsistent team in America. Lost 2 -1 to a MN all star team. I'm not part of them but yea it would seem like they would want to play in more top tournaments to get better competition.

Re: Lovell

I think they are the future. They have had a good first year it’s been kinda chaotic because they are staying in hotels because the academy isn’t finished yet. 60k is ridiculous especially for online school…online school is free the town pays for it. Lovell does have the connections that most coaches do not have which is a good thing. But lovell/advantage coaches are kinda crazy. They have good skills i’ve heard but the coaches do not know how to coach.

Re: Lovell

Is it just online school?

Re: Lovell

I don’t know. Right now I know it’s online school because they’re staying in the hotel. And I know they’ve hired teachers but since the academy isn’t done yet they can’t teach their so i’m not sure. The academy was supposed to be finished at the end of last may beginning of june and I took my kid for a tournament there a couple weeks ago and the academy is not even close to being done and the rink will is open to skate but their bar and all the other fun activities aren’t done. I believe

Re: Lovell

Bar and Restaurant are done/open. Bowling alley looks done too.

Re: Lovell

I recently spoke to a Lovell parent. It is NOT online. They have real teachers (I don't know anything about the teachers or the curriculum). They're using spaces within the rink that are unused during weekdays.

Yes, the classrooms they will have aren't finished yet. Buildings still in progress.

I recently was chatting with a Lovell parent. He said they have real teachers (i.e. not online).

Re: Lovell

I think what people are forgetting in their answers is they are an academy. They don't need to play in a league. Guy above was correct. Look at NAHA. Half the price and 3 x the games. Games agaisnt top tier 1 competition across North America. That is what Lovell should be doing. If you are willing to attend a hockey academy you need to be willing to travel. Travel to the competition and top tournaments is the key if you want to play the best. Otherwise you sit home and play VJW and other **** clubs around NE and NY.

Re: Lovell

Perhaps Lovell is working on getting into more tournaments. It's their first year. Sheesh.

Because playing the flames and winning 9-0 is good hockey! Haha

Try to stay up and actually read the post. Cliff notes: Wizzies beat flames 9 zip. People are ragging Lovell for not playing real competition and someone said Wizz clobbering teams 9 zip isn't making them any better either and they play in the NEGHL. Both of the teams need to take that almighty big step and fill out the application for some of the good National tournaments. Pay the 1500 bucks AND travel to them and play. Not too difficult.

Re: Lovell

The Lovell girls are mainly 09’s. The top Wizards team is almost all 08’s. A year of Lovell development they will at the top of the U14’s by the time they are 08’s.

You are forgetting the factory doesn't slow down over there in Bedford. Your implying that the 09 Lovell girls will develop and be on top next year. Wizards will do the same they do every year. 08s will age up. Best 09s will stay on the team, best 09s from 2nd team will move up and best 10s from 12s will move up. Quick look at MHR shows their 12s at #1 and their 14 -2s at #2. I doubt they are worried about their pipeline. Wash, rinse repeat.
