Academies in State/National Tournament

Since its state tournament time, why are hockey academy teams competing in the same state/national tournaments as club teams. I know the answers, but it seems unreasonable that teams from Shattuck, NAHA, Gilmour, BK, Northwood (?) and probably now Lovell are eligible for these tournaments. These academy teams practice/play 20+ hours (excluding dryland) a week, recruit from all over the country and emphasize hockey as much if not more than academics, while the club teams get 5 or 6 hours a week after a full day of school and other than the Wizards are made up of local-ish kids. I'm not knocking the academies, but they should have their own tournament.

Looks like NAHA did just fine at 16u. Took out Wiz and lost by a last minute goal in championship to the old man pedos red team.

Re: Academies in State/National Tournament

A last minute goal scored at 8 minutes left in the 3rd period. I have to agree last minute does sound better. Assabet can compete at the national level NAHA will not.

Spider makes a point about NAHA not competing at Nationals and it seems their chances for an at large bid are pretty small because of their 2nd place finish and current MYH Rankings? Does the selection committee only look at MYHR thru this week for final rankings and use those as part of their consideration? The host program (Dallas Stars) gets an auto-bid as well as the top finishers in the 12 districts. It's a 16 team tournament which will leave 3 at large bids.

Wizards will get the at large based off their record/MHR standing and no way they are taking 3 MA teams.

NAHA will get the bid. Clearly better then the overrated Wizards. See ya in TX.

Re: Academies in State/National Tournament

Rankings are based upon results through the end of the last district tournaments. Roughly 2nd weekend in March. This means that NAHA gets more time to build their records (League and other showcases) as do the Wizards (Holiday Tournament).

NAHA can also enter into the USA Hockey HS National Tournament if they so desire.

Re: Academies in State/National Tournament

Not impressed with NAHA at all - sounds like they played a great game knocking off Wiz but they were outplayed most of the weekend and had some lucky bounces go their way.

who outplayed NAHA? They made it to the finals...

Re: Academies in State/National Tournament

There will be very little movement in the MHR rankings from here on in. This morning Wiz came in at #2 and NAHA at # 13. The at large bid will go to the Wizards. I am not a Wiz parent but that is the way its going to go.

Proving the NEGHL and MA hockey politics continues to be strong!

Re: Academies in State/National Tournament

Is the NAHA red team dad still in the stands tracking the shots on his daughter and shooting video! The sad part is he could care less about the other players on the team so long as his daughters stats are good. Maybe one of the nice parents can remind him hockey is a team sport.
