QMJHL News

Jeff Cox ‏@JeffCoxSports 1h1 hour ago
Late '99 LD Paul Edson, formerly of St. John's Prep, has left Q before playing a game. Will still have to sit a year if he makes it to NCAA.

Re: QMJHL News

Another kid led astray by stupid parents and "advisers".

Another kid led astray by stupid parents and "advisers".
Unless you're a family friend, you have zero knowledge of what happened. Maybe you're right. Maybe the advisor told him to not go, and is the one advocating for the kid now. Maybe the parents were dead set against it but gave in to what the kid wanted to do.

I thought it was a curious decision to go but at least he was smart enough to get out before he derailed his hockey career. I wish the kid the best!

Re: QMJHL News

Kids have input. Parents make decisions so either way by supporting it or reluctantly letting him sign, poor parenting. Never heard of the player. Any USAH national camp participation? USHL draft? Looks like those with more than "zero knowledge" of the situation are way over their ski's on this one.

By the way, kids are always coming and going at all age groups but none post their decisions on the dboard. You posted this twice. Why so needy for attention?

Re: QMJHL News

I think the Q offers the tough sell and people fall for it. The whole 'road to the NHL,' 'we will pick-up the college tab,' this is early pro hockey....' stuff and then the kid gets there and sees it's a racket, a foreign language, cutthroat with the interests of the top 10% of players being attended to and then it goes pretty sour pretty fast. And let's be frank, some kids like it or not are not college material so they just don't care about NCAA anything.

More amazing is, who reads Jeff Cox? He wouldn't know a hockey player if he hit him with a 110 mph slapshot.

Now, that is great insight! Thank you. Dbag, please take notice!

Re: QMJHL News

Yes great insight. Hockey parents are not all that bright. Now that's a revelation.

Posted it twice to ensure it was seen. This way, anybody with insight might not miss it. Of course in doing so, i doubled the chances of some dbag noticing it and making some dbag comment. Go back to the Lax board!

Re: QMJHL News

Truth hurts sometimes I know.

Re: QMJHL News

Where else did you post this? Here twice, twitter, Jeff Cox. Did you call the local paper like you did back in May?

Wow talk about needy.

Re: QMJHL News

D board does stand for "Discussion" not D Bag brain drain board. Insightful, because the poster had something to say informative as opposed to putting somebody down. Nothing to do with intelligence Zippy.

Now I know you are bitter and you are resentful, but remember it could be a lot worse. Oh yeah, not sure who you think I am, but I am not him or her. Never called a newspaper in my life except for the few times my Sunday Globe wasn't on the stoop first thing.

Re: QMJHL News

So if you don't want people discussing the stupidity of your QMJHL Breaking News then don't post it.

I don't know the kid but because it was a curious decision at both a high school and jr level I thought it was pertinent enough to copy and paste on both ( Being lazy i guess).

There was another kid (BD)who made this jump a few years ago and it seemingly derailed his hockey career. I guess I was hopeful that some of the more intelligent hockey people might add to the discussion, not just those meglomaniac bottom feeders like yourself. You sir are a tremendous slouch.

How's your kids hockey career going? Chump.

Re: QMJHL News

So your a do-gooder? You thought by highlighting the bad decision you would prompt what exactly? Positive commentary? Sounds like I'm just echoing your thoughts. Your just a little more devious for intentionally making sure more people knew about this. Guess if I'm a slouch I have plenty of company.

Not a do gooder or devious just providing information. More interested in the selected path of the young man than trying to use the story as a cautionary tale. To me, Major jr hockey ( especially for a foreigner) is for the super stud who is choosing between BU, BC or the like. When I see these others choose this path it does catch my attention I really wish the kid luck and believe he is certainly talented enough in that he was given this opportunity in the first place. I just don't like people who look for opportunity to crap on others as opposed to providing something insightful such as the previous poster did.

Now go bully somebody in your office or plan your next Lax tournament Slappy.

Re: QMJHL News

Your really making me sad with your name calling.

Re: QMJHL News

(Just posted on another thread but relevant here as well...)

Personally, I'd rather have my kid play in the Q, then play college at one of the top Canadian universities (McGill, U of Toronto) than have him play for most of the Hockey East schools, from an educational perspective. Canadian college hockey rosters have numerous ex-CHL players.

Re: QMJHL News

I love how some of you clowns think you know all about hockey bc you spent 100k over the years.

There is a local kid who just turned 17 already playing in the KHL he probably use to school your boys on the ice.

You are smoking crack. There are no 17 year olds--let alone American 17 year olds--playing in the KHL. Americans playing in the KHL are in the twilight of their careers, they're not rising stars.

Oh now your interested? Red Star. Also if your kid was playing pro in Germany making 400k you would be talking about it every day to your dunkin donuts cashier. Dbag.

Re: QMJHL News

Stop lying your ass off Jethro. There aint no 17 year old playing in the KHL and if there was one good enough at that age, he would be a first round draft choice in the NHL next June and playing there.

Believe it or not, the guy's right. A Chinese team in the KHL just signed a 17 year Chinese kid who played for the VJW. Pure publicity stunt. The kid's terrible--but great for a Chinese national. Couldn't make Phillips Exeter varsity last year so left and played VJW U-18. His dad probably owns the team.

So have your lil all star go play for them bc the KHL is the real deal pal.

Re: QMJHL News

The kid ain't gonna play and you know it. He wasn't good enough to play around here. It's preseason for KHL and they are building a roster like everyone else. Daddy is an investor in the club and that's why the kid is on it. You act like the kid is really going to survive out there in a league with Pavel Datsuk. Yes we all know the KHL is the real deal and there are a lot of American's playing in it but they are men, 25 and up. There are no 18 year old's who couldn't score a goal at Exeter so they packed up and decided to play in the KHL.

His dad owns the team? Where do you people come up with this stuff? If that was true and that's why he made the team well then he would certainly play.

You guys are to much sometimes!

Re: QMJHL News

Kids not good. You know it. We all know it. We saw him play. But I'm sure he will be a pathfinder for all average hockey players to follow when MajorJunior/NCAA/NHL aren't in the cards.

Re: QMJHL News

The kid's dad is an extremely rich Chinese movie producer and actor. He played split season with my son a few games and would show up to the rink in a Bentley. I believe that his dad could be an investor or the owner of the team. I remember seeing a video made about him and his youth team and they were saying he was going to be the first Chinese born player to play in the NHL. I didn't see it or him having the ability to play in the KHL but I suppose that things could change.

Look if your kid was playing you would be pumped he made so STFU alright. He made it and he is playing. He has zero points but it's still early. It is a great accomplishment that he made it to the KHL and won the BIOSTEEL endorsement. Again if it was your kid you would be holding court at dunkin donuts every Monday recapping the weeks games with your buddies. He's a rookie give him time and do be a player hater be a motivator.

So I guess they're not "fake made up stats" eh?? Whoever you are you need to check yourself into a hospital because you are clearly delusional. Kid's position on team was bought, same as all the other 3 Chinese kids on the team, who in total have no points!! Same with the BIOSTEEL "endorsement". What a F---ing joke. If I ever bought my kid a position on a team I'd shut my mouth about it. "Recapping the week's games with my buddies"?? "Oh, he looked so good on the bench, drank a LOT of water. He really passed that towel." Oh yeah, I'd be boasting about that. LOFL.

It is the right kid, but then again, he is on the ice for such a small amount of time, it would be easy to get it confused. Keep paying for those skills, I suspect that entitles him to play in the KHL, lord knows he never earned it playing for any team

Doesn't matter who the picture was of--one Chinese hockey player is the same as the other. Only 1 legit Chinese player on the team and its not Rudi Ying. 23 yo Zach Yuen, Chinese-Canadian, actually has a hockey resume, unlike Ying, who just plays one in his daddy's dreams.

Wow - I feel horrible for you. You obviously are not that bright. The video is not Rudi Ying it is Xia Tianxiang another player of Asian descent. Ying didn't even play that game. Please seek an appointment with a neurologist. You may have experienced severe head trauma as a child. Perhaps you ate a lot of lead paint chips as a kid?

You do realize that is not Ying, right? Start drinking Gatorade and get off the Haterade.

Maybe if you send him some fan mail he will get your kid a tryout for their farm team.

Post didn't say it was Ying. You think he's the only little Chinese boy on his team with an 0-fer for the season whose daddy bought his spot?

Nice cover up but the post on 10/26 @ 7:55 clearly states it's him. Well it ain't. Sorry douchey your were wrong and don't stereotype.

Stereotype Chinese players that are on Beijing team that have zeros across stat line as being terrible players and having positions on team purely for the sake of publicity? Not stereotyping if it's true.

Kudos to you though for completely hijacking an interesting thread for your own feeble attempt at promoting an eh Chinese hockey player

Stop lying your ass off Jethro. There aint no 17 year old playing in the KHL and if there was one good enough at that age, he would be a first round draft choice in the NHL next June and playing there.

Signed at 17. Sorry buddy your wrong you don't know he probably schooled your little Johnny in U18 when he played for VJW.

So full of ****. Probably thinks KHL stands for Kanadian Hockey League.

Not terrible. Made varsity but sought out other opportunities. Not sure if his dad has an ownership stake but he is a famous Producer/Director in China. So I guess we don't have to worry about him if this hockey thing doesn't pan out.

Re: QMJHL News

Correct. He was on varsity both years, played his junior year but senior year went to VJW. He's been working with Gary Roberts as well as RHA Academy. I bet he puts up some decent numbers in his first season, let's see!

The kid got 1 assist in 1 varsity season at Exeter! You are smoking crack. Pure publicity stunt.

That's better then the ZERO you got playing JV your senior year!!!!!! Hahahhaahahha!

Sorry your boy is playing beer league!

Re: QMJHL News

Very familiar with the Rudy Ying situation, the kid played no better than 3-4 line at Exeter, kid has some skill, but had no interest in mixing it up on the ice, was mostly a spectator while he played. The family is loaded! Dad is some kind of famous talk show host on Chinese tv. Rudy's spot on that KHL team in China has been bought and paid for by the father, that's what they've done during the kids whole life.

As was stated earlier he has been working with Gary Roberts and RHA academy all summer. He's only 18 and he can still improve. He's in the KHL NOW let's see what happens and give him a chance.

What does it matter who he is working with, the family can write checks out their butt, he didn't earn nor does he belong in the KHL. this is all because of his father's checkbook

How the **** do YOU know? Watch a lot of KHL do you?

I swear, the "rich people suck" mentality here is ridiculous. If the team finds it worthwhile economically both for the publicity it could create in a nation with 1.4 billion people, and anything the dad may (or may not) be doing to grease the wheel, how are you qualified to say he doesn't belong?

Professional sports is entertainment. Grow up.

Right on and we all know most folks would do the same for their child if they could. So zip it up and see how if plays out before writing this kid off!

so what your saying is, if a parent writes the check to the right skating clinics, they deserve to pass everyone else to have a spot on a KHL team, even though the kid could barely play prep?? Keep writing those checks Mrs. Ying, your kid will learn a lot from that.

No, what we're saying is, a team based in CHINA gave him a spot. What their reasons are, are their reasons, and you have no clue what they are.

Tell us, how many Kunlun Red Star games did you see last season?

The Chinese Ice Hockey Association also saw fit to have him be the Captain of their U18 team at the World Juniors, too.

Who they decide to have him work with is their business. Imagine that, an 18 year old trying to develop his game.

Re: QMJHL News

Hate to burst the haters bubbles out there but rudi just wrapped preseason and he put some points on the board. First season game is next week so tune in online with your little johnnie. KHL is the big show little bo peep.

It's amazing what money can buy you, especially in China

Personally, I'd rather have my kid play in the Q, then play college at one of the top Canadian universities (McGill, U of Toronto) than have him play for most of the Hockey East schools, from an educational perspective. Canadian college hockey rosters have numerous ex-CHL players.

yes, they do, congrats on your 21-year old freshman

As opposed to the 21 year old frosh on a US College roster?

Average age for freshmen hockey players in NCAA is 21.

Another kid led astray by stupid parents and "advisers".

Who's to say he was "led astray"?? The kid is a late '99 and probably hadn't gotten much college attention yet, if any, and was seeing tiny 00s and 01s getting commits. He wasn't drafted in the USHL (or even the Q) and he got an opportunity out of the blue. If the team's GM hadn't turned over, he'd probably be happy as a clam in the Q and would probably finally get some recognition. As it is, he may actually get MORE attention from colleges now than he would have because they've at least heard his name. Losing one year of eligibility may turn out to have been a small price to pay.

If a kid isn't getting NCAA attention from schools he'd like to attend, why not go to the Q? Q teams offer educational packages that can be used anywhere. True, they wouldn't cover the whole price of college, but they'd help and a player who hasn't gotten much attention from college hockey wouldn't be getting much of a package either if he eventually does get an offer.

Comment was made by a guy who wasn't contacted by any advisors. So, naturally, anyone that has one is an idiot.

So many people on these boards act like what is happening to someone else's kid is somehow negatively impacting them.
