What are the best teams to watch in Boston and south of the city. Looking to take my son to watch so good hockey.
Think I saw that Thayer and Lawrence Academy are 1-2 in the preseason polls. Look for when LA travels down to Canton rink Jan 14th.
As for private hockey, you aren't going to match seeing the NJ Avalanche, who visit Hingham Dec 3rd and 4th, Not sure if it's the U18s (ranked #1 nationally), the U16s (#4) or both. Local boys have their work cut out for them.
Every high school coach should be suggesting to their kids to go and see the Tier 1 teams when they come to town, especially the U-16. It will show them what is possible and how the game can be played by some of the best kids in the country.

Good suggestion, but by U16 it's too late. There's just so much ground they can still cross. Bantam/U14 parents and coaches should bring their kids/teams, though, for sure, and tell them that it's still attainable, with a LOT of hard work and dedication.
Except that Hingham is a crappy viewing rink. Too bad. They should move these games to a better venue.
U16 seem to have the best talent and kids still trying to land an early commit. You'll see plenty of future D-I players there and if your kid is the same age fun to follow their path(s).
Pre-season HS hockey, check out some Mass Midget select league games. Jr. Bruins - Devine rink in Dorchester, Jr. Whalers - Canton sportsplex & River Rats play @ the new rink in Canton. Some of the best U16 & U18 hockey around. Mostly made up of the elite prep & private school kids.
During HS season, check out the rankings to follow the best teams and match ups. BC High, CM, Hingham & Xav. Bros. are a few of the top South of Boston schools to check out a game especially against a top ranked opponent like MC, SJP, PF etc.. Fast paced, talented & inspiring hockey to bring your squirt, pee wee or bantam to.
Go to the Flood-Marr tournament the weekend before Christmas, hosted by Noble & Greenough and Milton Academy. Some of the top prep schools in New England will be playing.

Is this a down year for St.George's, or has the hockey been not good there for a while?
St. George is generally a low level hockey school within prep. All you have to do is take a look a the top ten ranked prep in New England (USHR), it's usually the same schools give or take a few.

School is solid, location is great, hockey is on the lower end but your kid will get a ton of ice first year. To us, its better than waiting 3 years for ice time.
So it sounds like the hockey isn't quite important enough in their culture to factor into aggressive financial aid packages? So the hockey player needs to be an elite student first and foremost, and not expect much FA?
