Why has the talent level at the rivers school dropped so much?

Most good players are leaving prep for u18 teams
This leaves a void in the talent pool
It benefits less talented player by giving the the opportunity that they would not have had if the good players stuck around

I am not even sure I understand the arguement. Prep hockey has it all over the publics and even the Catholics. The high schools can't compete because the preps recruit the best players. The high schools can't recruit and therefore lose out on these players. Money is need based but because of the endowments most kids will receive financial aid to make it affordable.

By the way, isn't the goal of going to prep or high school to get to college? If hockey is a vehicle that can get you to Princeton, Brown, BU, UCONN and Bently then yes going to prep school is worth it. I am sure that unless someone is wealthy and above the norm that these student athletes are not paying anywhere near $150K. I also use the term student athlete because kids need good grades to ge into these schools. therefore, if your student athlete can get to prep and play hockey that is great. if he can get into a D1 school through hockey even better. If hockey doesn't get him into a D1 school then good grades at a Rivers will get him a good education at a great college or University. if you think going to a prep will get you to the NHL then the odds are still very long. Better to get a good education, get into a good colege and get a great opportunity when you graduate. If your kid can do that then he got everything he ever wanted out of the sport.

My son's team had his season ended by Rivers. He's played with and against many of the Rivers kids either in youth hockey or prep preseason. They were a good strong team again this year and their coach does a good job of finding talented kids and preparing them for competitive HS hockey and beyond. The OPs son obdviously didn't get into Rivers and he's angry. Just ignore him, HS Lax season starts after the break and payback is coming

my son is currently skating in Michigan. He has already played in several international tournaments
He has already committed to a D1 school. Just waiting for him to become a senior and graduate
Unlike your bender he has a real shot of advancing past college hockey
And no I will not being going to see your bender play in college hockey, but you might be paying to see mine play shortly
So rivers learn some humility. There is always some better than you.


Only kid I know from around here scored 2 goals in 30 games in Michigan this year. Maybe you should have gone the Prep route. If you think he will see the Ice in the NHL with numbers like that you are delusional.
