Top Midget Organizations Join Forces for Beast Tournament Series

The top midget organizations in the northeast have come together to form the Beast Tournament Series in an effort to provide exposure and competitive hockey.

The founding members include Mid-Fairfield, Neponset Valley River Rats, North Jersey Avalanche and Yale Midget Hockey. Those four organizations will have teams in each division — 15U, 16U and 18U.

The Boston Jr. Eagles will field teams at the 18U and 16U level while Rochester Coalition will have an entrant at the 15U level.

The Philadelphia Jr. Flyers will be an affiliate member, appearing in two of the five showcases. Selects Academy at South Kent will appear in two of the events.

Each team will play a 10-game schedule with a championship series during the last weekend of October. Most games will be played at the Neponset Valley River Rats Jamboree, East Coast Classics Labor Day, Yale Jamboree and Beast Columbus Day Showcase.

The organizations had 70 NCAA Division I commits and six players selected to USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program (NTDP) between them during last season.

The Beast Tournament Series will be great for players, coaches and scouts as it will be the best of the best competing against each other instead of the watered down product there is at most showcases.

This venture is starting to ruffle some feathers around here.

Why?

Re: Midget Beast Tournament Series

No Rifles? Why?

Re: Midget Beast Tournament Series

Rifles already play in most of the events listed, and play the teams listed. If they decide to "join", it won't be much different than their current status.

Why?

Same time frame as Beantown. Competing for talent.

Re: Midget Beast Tournament Series

How was the first Beast Tournament Series event?

Re: Midget Beast Tournament Series

The Beast series was rolled into the ECC Labor day so if the Eagles played Yale it counted as one of the series game. Same thing with the E9 Prep series. Rifles played NV River rats. counted as an E9 game. Tough to call either a legit league but more a partnership among teams so they can pick and choose who to play under some type of structured format. If anything it left the Mass Select league searching for games.

It sounds like you are still operating under the impression that league matters. That stops at Bantam Minor.

What Beast and E9 Prep are selling is exposure. The more talent on the ice in any one game, the more scouts are likely to be there.

League. Doesn't. Matter.

League doesn't matter at any level.

Exactly and hockey doesn't matter until the checking starts. So leagues don't matter but checking does. Those who aren't culled out and segregated in leagues from age 2-17 skate around at stick time and learn to skate. Then someone mysteriously yells "start hitting!" and all of a sudden the kids in the elite leagues disappear and this new class of behemoth takes over and the coaches and scouts start handing them scholarships an offers. 17 year old House League players blossom into the next great ones. Its amazing, no lie.
