Split season hardly matters as most of the better games are in tournaments against full season teams anyway. A lot of kids will hang around EHF in midgets just to have a fun time and get a lot ice time.
Your post is the complete opposite to the truth. 1 practice per week in most EHF orgs. Crappy players and games. Mass Selects or new e9 plus the right tournaments is the only way to go. EHF for older kids is for townies or crappy CC or RI HS players.

1) New England Fall Prep Hockey League- Most of the top 1/2 season Prep/Catholic/Public players in the Boston North area flocking to this league in recent years. U18 and U19 level teams only.
2) Mass Selects- Historicly strong U16 and U18 level hockey with a good mix or Prep/Catholic/better Public varsity players.
3)EHF- most organizations field 2 teams. Top teams typicaly solid. A lot of Catholic/Public varsity players. Second level teams purely money makers so buyer beware.
4)E9- Most top teams for these organizations already in Mass Select. Can only imagine these teams will end up being purely money makers. Fingers crossed if you jumped in this year. Let us know how it shakes out.

NEFPL is trash now. Has really fallen off. Top players are going to the River Rats, Cape Cod Whalers, Yale.
So Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer leagues are all watered down...Got it! Hockey is bad..OK!
No. Not bad hockey. Good Hockey. Talent not as concentrated as previously. Too many fall teams( and FS Midget), too many fall tournaments, too many people wanting to make a buck ( not that there is anything wrong with that). In some ways the amount of "Good" players is greater than ever, just spread out = Watered Down.
Does not fit your narrative but that is what I am saying. You go tell that mean ocean.
