Re: Why does MA Hockey have the rule against playing both full season club and HS?

What, the MIAA do something stupid? Come on now...

Granted most of the better players are at prep or private but some aren't and play full season for the competition. Just seems MA Hockey is shooting themselves in the foot with this rule and killing high school hockey even more.
new season same old questions --- the MIAA does NOT have a rule you can not play both. it does have a rule that attendance is required for HS sports (HS comes first). just like the school itself (you miss enough you do not graduate). HS/Juniors is not youth hockey... you don't get to cherry pick, time to make a decision. while you/many think they are 'killing hs hockey' there are 200 odd teams that prove otherwise. and many/most hs parents understand what hs sports are about.

can't have your cake and eat it too.

It's not really fair to keep some half-decent kids off the varsity roster just because a few "studs" want to do both.

Somebody's getting anxious with tryouts looming.

Most of the kids playing both HS and FS are using the FS team as their split team. Maybe they sneak in a game or two with FS during the winter but not too likely.

If you are playing Prep, CC or Mass D1 you are still much better off there. If not, then a GOOD FS team is a great option.

Maybe its the coach not wanting his players playing for the club team during Hs season. Maybe he doesn't want them to get hurt and then not be able to play for Hs team. If there is no conflict w games, whats the big deal? Missing Hs practices for club practices I can see as a no no.

Re: Why does MA Hockey have the rule against playing both full season club and HS?

It's not a rule AGAINST playing for both, it's a rule ensuring that the athlete gives his/her HS FIRST priority. I.E. you cannot skip a hs practice or game for anything to do with the Club team. If you can manage to do both without missing any HS stuff and keeping your club coach/teammates happy with what you miss for them then go for it and have a ball. If not, then choices have to be made. That's life.

Let's see....HS practices 4 days a week and 2 games a week...that's 6/7 and some rest on day 7. What else do you need? If you are "ELITE" you are in prep school or on a REAL JR. Team. If not, regular HS is just fine, plenty of hockey and plenty of competition.

If you do not DOMINATE on your HS team, your fooling yourselves thinking your going anywhere.

Couldn't agree more with this post. Play high school and stop fooling your selves. You don't need to play both HS and a U16/18 team. Have fun in high school and move on after its over. To mens league for 99.8%

Watched a high school practice Friday. Holy cow. My sons Bantam minor team moves the puck better.
