O.K. DBoarders, what’s the TRUE story???
Three coaches suspended for behavior and no one knows a thing.....
The coach held practice yesterday despite all after school activities being cancelled due to weather and dangerous ice conditions. That’s what happens when you have a big ego and you think you are coaching at a much higher level than you actually are.
Gotta be more to it than that.....gimmee a break—slap on the wrist sure but jesus christ
The guy is a jerk. It also may have something to do with his arrogant attitude, He certainly did not make any friends with the administration.
He didn't let the players drink water during practice. It was on the news tonight. Zzzzzz
Sounds like he was quite upset Pope Francis beat them and took it out on the players, depriving them of food and water. Definitely does not sound like someone who should be around children. I wonder if he would do that to his own kids! How does a guy like that even get hired?
Once again Andover parents get coaches suspended over nothing. Some of the kids after the game had food and drinks of their own but the coaches were ****** about the lost and they did not stop at for any food or drinks on the way home. SO lucky they did not starve or totally dehydrate on that long 2 hour drive from Springfield. SO parents felt the need to call the Federal Dept of Child and Family Services? I feel bad for any coach in Andover having to deal with parents like this year after year. Its always a few bad apples that ruin it for everyone else. You wonder why many of the players leave for CC and other options to avoid this BS.
What's surprising is there were any players on the bus after the game in Springfield? With these Andover helicopter parents, they are usually seen walking out of the rinks carrying there kid's bag and riding home together in their cars?
I do not have a child in high school but have watched from the youth ranks. The coach is visible in the Andover Youth Hockey program, he recognizes youth players at every home game, his players are active in community service, the stands are full and the community has rallied behind the team. His teams play hard and he's in the process of not only building a winning program but also a camaraderie where these kids will be friends for life. These kids are 16-18 - it's not mite hockey. Parents stay out of it, let the guy do his job and tell your kid to put a water bottle and pbj sandwich in his bag next time. Let's think about this - they drove to western mass for 3 hours, played 3 -4 hours of games and drove home for 3 hours which equals a 12 hour span. He didn't refuse to feed them for 12 hours - If your kid is not smart enough to pack some food, you should be reported as a parent.
Can you say Turtle Boy? ...Please get to the bottom of this Snowflake Story.
That didn't take long, right up TB's alley

How does not letting kids have water or food after a game or during a practice motivate them? What exactly is that teaching them?
The players were told multiple times to pack a backpack with waters and whatever else they wanted. The kids who followed directions were fine the ones who didn't need to look in the mirror. The Bus left at 8:30 am and was back by 4;30. That's not 12 hours by my math. There was no discipline by the coaches after the game. The kids who had fluids drank them after the game. Coach didn't confiscate them for christsakes. Rally, is the coaches fault or the parents/kids who didn't think about a game in Springfield.
Good luck to the kid or kids whose parents caused this overreaction.
Might want to attend a few FS tryouts.
Your soft - forget the coaches, feel sorry for the kids if parents think like this.

ANDOVER — Andover High School Principal Philip Conrad reports that three Andover High School boys’ hockey coaches, including varsity head coach Chris Kuchar, have been placed on administrative leave.
Conrad, who with Athletic Director William Martin determines whether the high school’s athletic programs operate consistent with district and Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association policies, has informed Superintendent Sheldon Berman of his decision and the investigation, according to a statement from the school.
Conrad took this action after receiving information that certain coaching methodologies may have been used for the hockey program which, if true, are not in the best interests of the student athletes. None of the coaches are school district staff members.
The coaches were immediately put on leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Junior varsity hockey coach Peter Loring has been named interim varsity head coach.
The Eagle-Tribune reached out to coach Kuchar and Martin but neither responded.
Kuchar is in his fourth year at Andover High, where he has a 45-20-12 record. He coached the previous four years for the Amesbury-Whittier varsity co-op team.
This year’s Golden Warrior squad is 6-3-1 and is ranked 18th in the MassHSHockey.com rankings. Last year’s squad made the North finals for the first time since the 2006-07 team.
According to the athletic department website, Andover is slated to play Chelmsford Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Lawrence Valley Forum.
Members of the varsity hockey team were notified of the situation this morning, and the school district also sent a message home to parents of the student athletes, the statement said.
Andover High School has designated certain employees of the high school — the principal, assistant principal, school social worker, and school psychologist — as points of contact for any student with questions or concerns.
“The safety and well-being of our students is our most important priority, and I am disheartened to hear of the allegations against members of our coaching staff,” Conrad said in the statement.
my understanding, third and fourth (?) hand... Saturday V and JV had back to back in Springfield. They did stop but not on the way home (unclear if before or each during the other game). This can not be the issue. What parent would not realize for such a lengthy trip not to give their child a food 'pak' or money for the concession stand.
At monday's practice there was no water breaks during a 1.5 hour 'wind sprint' filled practice. the schools hands are tied once DES (or whatever they are called now) were notified. if this was a typical town, the parent would call the AD, the AD would have told the coaches to 'knock it off'.
What have we come to? So the coaches stood by the vending and water telling the kids they cannot have anything and get on the bus because you sucked , this is a high school varsity team , boys are older and are supposed to take care of themselves, sound to me like the people complaining are 3rd and 4th line players that drove 2 hours each way to sit on tbe bench and watch the better kids play.
Now I get the big picture..These Andover parents in question here are the same ones that carried their kids sticks and bags after a game while junior scoffed down a donut and slurpee on the way out of the rink. They kids had water all game on the bench so need reason to worry they are going to dehydrate. Pussification of America at its finest here. Pathetic!
but the 'parent' did not go to the AD or the principal or the.... They filed an abuse claim with the DCF!!!!
Billerica runs their practices with no access to water like this all the time. First two weeks of season were Bag skates and no water and rumors of extreme hazing over past 4 years. Good stuff. Obviously leads to success. 1 win in 2 years. Go get me boys
The Andover Coach thinks he is coaching at a level much higher than he actually is and Andover continues to create a circus atmosphere with their hockey program. This guy was hired by the Booster's Club, their leader and a few influential donors not the school administration to be sure only certain kids got to play over the last few years. This caused a lot of very good hockey players to take off for better opportunities. This allowed this guy's ego to explode and he finally got what he deserved!
Love these 1950's coaching methods. Do you think for one second a top coach in a college program would pull such bush league things on his players? Like a modern era coach wouldn't understand depriving a kid of hydration after the kid exerted himself would be a bad thing for recovery or muscular health and development?
And another thing, today's players HAVE A CHOICE where to play. It's not 1950 where the local high school coach basically owns the kids in 9th grade and they have no where else to go. Today these kids can and will pack their bags and go to a C.C. or junior team and kiss the old school idiocy good bye. A few years ago at our local high school the coaching staff teased and bullied a kid to the point where he left and joined a full season team and the loss was the high school coaches.
let's say there was no bus and each family drove to and from Springfield their own child/player . Your telling me after the game any parent that did not stop on the Mass Pike and Feed their kid on the way back to their home in Andover should now be under investigation from Child Service? I'm pretty sure the MIAA or Andover High do not have a stipulation that teams that travel by bus need to stop to feed the kids after the game. This is a parent with an Axe to grind... Period!
So you're telling me each kid had to get to Springfield on their own? What kind of a program is that?
No...hypothetically if kids travelled with their parents to the same game then based of this Andover parents complaint to DSS of the bus not stopping to feed the kids on way home, each parent would have to stop to feed their kids on the way home too or be at risk for a DSS investigation...it's ridiculous.
No parent is that stupid. "Johnny your team lost! You are going without food or drink for the next 6 hours!!!"
Yeah, then DSS would take a look at that.
And this whole 'bag skate' mentality is just looking for problems. Kids today will bail on the coach and the program so fast the coach will be left with a bunch of dusty benders - the good players won't put up with that B.S. unless maybe their tuition is being covered and this is hardly the case at a second rate public high school.
Why they don't stop is irrelevant. Based on your theory a parent must stop on way back to Springfield to feed thier kids. What if the parent thought their kid played great but realized they didn't have their wallet on them and couldn't stop and junior would have to wait to eat when he got home in Andover. Based on your thinking that parent should be under investigation.
No food or drink for 6 hours? Does the water in the water bottles on the bench during the game not count as a drink? Could kids grab a slice and a Gatorade after the game at the concession stand after speaking to their parents? The trip from Springfield to Andover is under 2 hours. Again where are the rules that state a coach needs to stop and provide food for his or her team after a game?
Only an idiot coach withholds water from athletes. In the 1950's, the 1990's or today. Period. Coach(es) and the boosters that hired the guy(s), have a good day.
Amen
It's my lunch hour, I have to run.
Keep trolling...your kid must be fringe player and you have an ax to grind. First day of practice each kid was given an individual water bottle and told to bring to practice. Coach did the same thing last year. If any player wanted water it was available. Only a lunatic calls DCF about water bottles being provided. Skipped five steps to get the issue taken care of, if there really was an issue.
Soft....
If a parent or parents really did report this to DCF, the administrators have no choice but to suspend the coaches pending investigation. If they continued to let them coach and it turns out something was really f'd up, the administrators would be liable, they are just protecting their arses. Sounds to me like a couple of parents are out of line and unfortunately it's the kids and coaches paying the price. Likely outcome: coach is found to have done nothing wrong, laughs at the AD when they talk about next year and takes a job elsewhere.
All this over a few happy meals and a hard practice?
No coach at any level withholds food & water to players. You would have to be an idiot to do this and expect performance in return.
The "Being a jack-wagon, hardo coach and draining players only to bag skate them the next day" supporters might want to crack open and exercise physiology book sometime. Hilarious. Oh, those books can be found at your public library. And evidently the outside, educated world disagrees with the hardos as they are going to get bounced for their caveman antics.
Bottom line, this guy runs around Andover as if he was a townie and reality is that he just got used by the real townies and kicked to the curb. The hockey community in Andover expects everyone to bow down to them, why know one knows because the hockey is not good. it is mearly a source of revenue for a select group of people who’s children were lousy hockey players and lousy people too!
Maybe they should let the kids suck on pacifiers on the bench. Creating a world of giant pussies
The coach didn't pull the bus over because he just spent all day with your whining ass kid and the thought of another 15 minutes of watching him stare cluelessly at a McDonald's menu probably made him sick to his stomach. I would have given the bus driver a couple bucks for every minute he could shave off the eta on the gps just to get away from those snowflakes a little sooner.
Physical abuse? That's a hefty allegation you are putting out there. You are quick to mention Sandusky and Nasser....but let's not forget about the Duke Laccrosse team and Hurricane Rubin Carter.. once upon a time they had false accusations thrown at them
so in the mornings news ---- the team manager (senior) who's job includes keeping those water bottles filled stated (paraphrasing, badly): 'water was available and never withheld win or lose'. its still early but it appears more obvious this is a playing time issue.
what i find more disturbing is the principal saying ANYTHING. how many times does something happen and the 'person in charge' states 'i have no comment until the investigation is complete'. the coaching staff had to be 'suspended' while DCF did it's job. But i seriously doubt this moves beyond an interview of the filer and then a courtesy call to the principal.
the coaching staff has no choice but to move on. Andover is famous for running ice hockey coaches out of town, even the good ones (ask MM). what the principal did has only reinforced this.
Beat I agree with you 100% as usual except that in today's world, the administration has no choice but to suspend the coaches pending the outcome of the investigation. Not to trivialize or compare to some of the horrible acts of monsters (Sandusky/Nassar) but how many countless kids wouldn't have been traumatized had their respective bosses acted at the first report?
I don't know what the right answer is but in today's world, the principal/AD don't have any choice but to sideline them while DCF does it thing. For a moment imagine if we are all wrong in our conclusions & this staff is guilty and they didn't suspend them (innocent until proven guilty). The administration would be out of a job for failing to act and the town would be likely be facing some serious liability issues.
Why the parents decided to pursue this through DCF only they can answer and if we are all correct that the staff didn't do anything wrong, I feel for the coaches.
You are soft like your kid
Oh great, the knuckle-dragging, Bro-culture, Trump supporting, neo-nazi college kids of Barstool Sports just posted on this. Lovely.
Its all over..High School hockey has died as of this last straw.
According to the Andover High School athletics website, Saturday night's boys hockey game against Hingham has been postponed. The Golden Warriors were slated to travel to Pilgrim Skating Arena in Hingham for an 8 p.m. faceoff.
Andover High placed three boys hockey coaches on administrative leave earlier this week. According to Andover school officials, boys hockey players were deprived of food and water as punishment for poor performance.
“During a practice after the team lost a game, students were forced to do a punitive conditioning session where they were not allowed a water break,” the school department said in a statement. “After the team lost an away game and were on the road back to Andover, students were denied food as a punishment for losing.
“Andover Public Schools is fully cooperating with the DCF investigation and will additionally conduct its own investigation following the conclusion of the DCF investigation,” the school added.
The claims also have prompted a state child welfare investigation of possible child neglect in the boys hockey program.
The kids have staged a boycott of all road games until the Andover school administration meets their demands for fair treatment.
A partial list of their demands include a full buffet in the back of the bus with 1 Large table for catering dressed with white tablecloths, bus temperature set at 72 degrees, each player is to receive 2 new white towels in the shower, locker room (1 face & 1 body). Hot Food: BW3's Chicken - Legs, Wings only, Steamed Garlic Broccoli, Lightly Seasoned Green Beans, Lightly Seasoned Steamed Spinach, a Pasta Bar and a Carving Station - Roast Beef & Ham, a one gallon bucket full of M&M's with all red ones removed, a case each of Pepsi, Mt. Dew & Gatorade (Blue and Green only), 3 Cases of Poland Springs water (half cold, half room temperature), Sliced Lemons Wedges. 4 Full Sized Cheese Cakes from the Cheesecake Factory.
These AHS players are conditioned with a sense of entitlement early in their hockey careers while playing youth hockey for the Andover Hockey Assoc., who are the same group of idiots that run the Andover HS Hat Trick Boosters Club. Their kids have all been glorified with participation medals and they hand selected this coach who kissed their asses and played their kids, now he has ****** off the wrong people. This coach clearly has issues controlling his emotions and it has finally caught up with him.
its very easy to 'have fun with this'. but we are talking about a coach's (actually 3) career or life long dream crushed by 'someone'. the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune is doing a good job of keeping up. they reported that they have seen four receipts to Panera on the day in question that was turned in by the coaching staff for reimbursement (by the boosters). this calls into question one of the two allegations. the team manager (who's job it is to fill the water bottles) stated they were available at practice. calling into question the second of the allegations. further the HC has now hired an attorney. several current and former parents are coming forward in support of the coach (named, quoted and published). they cancelled tonight's game and tied a weak team on Thursday. i understand 'facebook' is blowing up with all kinds of who and why this was done.
as a coach i am deeply troubled the issue was not brought forth to the school first. why? going to the school would require the person to be identified and lead to a meeting between the school (AD & principal), the HC and the person complaining. been there done that more than once. if it is playing time related it usually ends there (admin is very coach supportive) other issues tend to lead to corrective action on the coaches part. but using DCF is anonymous and requires no proof. what it does is ties the administrations hands - they have no real choice but to suspend the coach/staff until the DCF investigation is complete. so what prevents a person before a big game --- say the state finals from filing a complaint on an opponent.
i suppose this is just the natural progression of certain parents not getting their way then realizing they can't change teams (as they did in the youth years) so they do this.
remember this the next time you say 'hs coaches are -----'
So the real question remains, where was Cap A throughout this whole fiasco? THIS was her chance and she blew it.
So we are in agreement - Parents are soft...
