Watching it with my son and I can't believe the wide range of talent selected for this camp. I guess its all based on demographics and only selecting a certain number of kids from each district? My son is an 03 and didn't try out for our states selection but some of these are kids he's played against and blew them away last year, very surprised to see them selected.
My son went last year and I have to agree with you, the spectrum of talent is all over the place. It is a great opportunity for the selected group but there is room for improvement for selections, meaning, if 1 district has 15 players and another has 4, so be it, get the best there.
If you have an 03 who is good, I would suggest getting him there next year although the 03 group this year that made it through is very well connected so you may have that battle to deal with.
In Mass it is who you know not necessarily how good you are. You have to be able to play but if you are not connected or don't have the right "family advisor", you are not going to get the looks to get the chance at the camp - you need someone pulling for you in the evaluation room - examples of that from all 3 ages groups this year.
It has been like that for years and it is the same in some of the other east regions. No one is interested in changing it...
