And the USPHL teams are going to get smoked. Let’s see here, Jr Bruins are 03’s and 04’s, Kings are awful, Bandits can’t firld a team, Islanders will be ok, and Jr Rangers are always bad at midget level. Oops, don’t forget about those Maine Moose, Dynamo and Rockets!
Unfortunately this league has gone south fast. Play prep, Tier1EHL or CC....
Not sure where you are getting your information but the Jr Bruins are not 03/04's and the Kings will be a strong team (locally). The teams that played over the summer were some roster players but a bunch of fill in players due to vacations/conflicts
That being said...hockey around here is so watered down the majority of the teams can't compete outside of the area.
Agree..I think my kids U16 team will have 35 man roster..all elite players though:grimacing:
HS hockey in Massachusetts is not strong look for other options
Jr. Bruins won Fall Beantown last year, beating Cape Cod Whalers in final and fall prep league all star team in semis.
Selects Academy at South Kent will be a strong USPHL team and is the defending champion. Other NY, NJ USPHL teams like NJ Hitmen, PAL Islanders, etc. will probably be stronger than most Boston area teams except maybe Jr. Bruins or Islanders. NH Monarchs will be a solid addition to league.
With Mass Selects previously merging with EHF, and then EHF merging with USPHL, there’s probably going to be a lot more crossover between the USPHL full season teams and many of the former Mass Selects and EHF split season teams.
With these Mass Selects/EHF/USPHL mergers, Beast (Yale, MF, NJ Avalanche, etc.), HPHL Detroit/Chicago teams coming to Boston, all the teams for BJB Showcase, Fall Beantown, etc., this is shaping up to be perhaps the strongest year of midget hockey in the Northeast.
Agreed Good Points
Agreed but Jr Bruins lost ALL their talent from last year and won’t be good. Kings were bad last year and will be same this year having lost most if not all their good players. Bandits don’t have Midget teams this year and the Islanders are a thing of the past. Monarchs? All good players left for Avalanche.
South Kent will roll league and Midwest teams will kill the local teams....
Kings retained some talent and got some strong local 03's on their roster. With a new coach, they will be better than you think.
Kings had a strong 02 last year. Is he back?
Kings had a few good 02’s and some really Dad ones. 2 good ones left to go to BA, another to Islanders, one stayed. All the bad ones stayed. Kings have, and will continue to be bad at the 16 and 18 level....
How many new players did BA U16 pick up besides the 2 Kings?
Who is looking strong for U16? BA barely won 15’s with a short bench, while many of the strong 02’s we’re playing U16 last year. Eagles (picked up a strong 02 goalie from Rats, will probably have a few strong 03’s), Rats, Cape Cod Whalers (last years’s team was mostly 02’s, did lose 2 good forwards and goalie to NTDP), BA, Islanders, Jr. Bruins? In NE, Selects at South Kent and Yale should be very strong, both picking up very strong players. NJ Avalanche will be in Boston quite a bit and should be very strong.
BA got top 02 players from Kings and Jr Bruins. They will be loaded this year.
Funny comment about other Kings players. Even funnier about Eagles.
Problem with USPHL is it’s now all 03’s and some 04’s for u16.
Everyone thinks playing up makes you better...if you can't compete (size, speed, game sense) playing up how are you getting better.
Not a great situation for the 02's on these teams either...
With SKS basically coming to Mount and them playing in T1EL and ECEL, put a fork in the USPHL. All good local players will fight for spots there.
RI hockey also officially dead next season as well.
The SKS coaches went to Mount, not the players. SKS is loaded at all ages. USPHL will be fine.
Kings picked up some strong 03's from the Terriers & Kings and kept many of the good 02's from last season.
They will hold their own locally.
Every U16 team lost some strong 01's as they moved up the ladder so the same can be said about most teams. So every team lost talent, it evens out. There will be some great games and some not so great games but that's how it is at most levels.
Ma HS Public/Cath hockey is going down fast just go watch a game.
Out here in the western part of the state HS hockey is where you go to play if your looking to retire. Pope has even lost its luster.
Have to travel to Jr Bruins or pay up to be play prep, if not your done.
August 17th and still no schedule for U15,U16,U18...WTF?:grimacing:
Probably has nothing to do with the fact 3/4 teams have like 10 players on their rosters?
Those Bandits, Potomac Patriots, Maine Moose, Wolfpack, Nighthawks, Philly HC? are all world beaters!
Give me a break people. Have a great season!
Schedules have gone out to a number of the teams. Check with your coach. Still a couple of open dates, so probably why not online yet. With the USPHL National Division having all the top teams play against each more frequently, coupled with the BJB, Beantown, Yale Jamboree, and other showcases, schedule strength is much improved.
It helps but league still sucks
Repeat after me...no one with any talent cares about the USPHL...No one !!!
Where do all the haters suggest these kids play? This is my sons first year in the USPHL, plan on only doing a year =before prep, but this seems like a good fit for a year.
Good post, but long.
Responding to last 2 posters.
If 03 or big, good 04, then yes, USPHL u16 a good 1 year option. If an 02, forget about it. No chance at heading to prep after this year. Enjoy the local weak talent and the last year or two of your son’s hockey experience. If playing USPHL at u18 level then you are just a sucker...T1EL, NAPHL or even ECEL has better record of promoting players. Travel stinks but at u16 if you are not headed to Midwest a few times a year you are not getting the best return on your tuition. Anyone can stay local and thump the USPHL teams. Unfortunately even the Syracuse and Rochester teams now stink losing all talent to Rochester Coalition, Regals and Jr Sabres.
Locally, mostly leagues equal. Key is:
1. Ice time - amount, access to, # practices, skills, off-ice, # games (70+) and # lines on team
3. Out of league games/tourneys against national talent pool
5. Org connections and validation by hockey world
There are 3 FS orgs locally that are truly connected. Lovell being #1, Jr Bruins #2, Islanders were #3. Kings used to be in mix but haven’t been in last few years since SH left. The #3 spot will probably be up for the grabs as it is well known in the coaching community at the college ranks that they are basically boycotting RG with this USPHL separation from USA hockey and him forcing the Merrimack coach out. Plus, he’s a donkey and arrogant to deal with so very much on the outside per most college coaches. If you want your kid to play local college hockey, run from him as he will not get a real look anymore because of RG, especially at Merrimack.
Good comments, very insightful and accurate. I suspect that there will be some 02’s playing USPHL who go prep after this season, just as there were a number of 01’s who went prep after last season. Probably more 03’s (and maybe even 04’s) than 02’s as a percentage who go prep after this season.
None on the local teams
2 Weeks before start of season and no schedules for U18 or U16 Teams.. hows your season planning going? Suckers.
I get the guy saying "1 day at a time, its not youth hockey" but if they posted the NCDC, Premiere an Elite schedules already I too would be a little annoyed at no U18, U16, U15 schedules posted.
Sorry your kid plays in the USPHL in the first place
Another day and still no schedule. Hey, maybe your coach can set-up some scrimmages with all the other teams with no schedule. Sorry your league cut everyone. In all seriousness, I would be very concerned that everyone is saying "The league is just finalizing a few things" like how many teams don't have enough kids to make a team.
