My reaction is this is more of a program issue than an age group issue. I'm sure you don't want to reveal the program name, but I'll bet if we knew we would be able to say "I could have told you this would happen." Could easily be talking U16, U18, or Juniors.
Oh, and it happens a LOT at the Prep School level, too. So don't be too hard on yourself.
Can't go blindly forward any more. Need to always have a Development Plan B. Too much uncertainty, too many liars.
Bingo. All liars. Fictitious signings and rosters, and actual “coaching”
Literally like watching a pee wee practice trying to break the puck out.
Depending on the program, nothing more than bad youth hockey
You have 2 options:
1. Join a strong 1/2 season team that plays in the higher bracket of tournaments
2. See option 1
Full season U15 in this area is very weak.
You're idiot and deserve what's coming to you if you have an 03 who already played Varsity (this yr Soph) or will be playing Varsity (Frosh/Soph) still playing 15. The only possible reason is your own/and or kids ego to still dominate against weaker smaller players or pretend you are "Going to Natty's!!!, wooooo!! Dopes..
The better 03's should be and are playing U16. It's better for development if the kid wants to play HS/prep.. It might not be better for drinking buddy dads who think they can get one last kick at the can of youth hockey before they have no control of their kids playing time and status. (wait, isn't that another thread??..)
Many of the 15’s playing 16 should in fact be playing U15 where they belong. Look at the names...coaches kids, sons of former nhl guys, friends of both, “committed” players etc. etc. There is a lot of humble pie out there for these 15’s and more importantly Mom and Dad. Most wouldn’t dominate in U15 games. That’s the reality people!
Now.....on to those “commitments”. This has turned into an absolute circus act! Again, most are fueled by much more than hockey talent. It’s getting to the point where it tarnishes the few players that really are deserving. “I am proud to announce my commitment to play D-1 hockey at Harvard”. Ummmm son, your a 2nd liner on a mediocre U16 team, you’re getting B’s and C’s in a public high school (or worse being home schooled to pursue your hockey “career”) and you’re a d**k on and off the ice. Darn good chance you never set foot on campus much less play hockey there! Does the Dean of Admissions know your coming??? Might be a good idea to delete that Insta post now to save the embarrassment in a few years while in the room at your local beer league.....after a long day shoveling dirt on the job site in Southie!
It will be tons of fun reviewing those “commitment” lists in the “where are they now” thread that will definitely show up on this board in a few years. Maybe 1 in 10 pan out?? We’ll see. Sucks that those proud kids will need to go through that but it’s well deserved for those around them. Do check back....
Unfortunately U16 has been watered down locally with bad 03’s. If the 03’s played u15 and you limited the number of teams it would be better for both age groups.
Locally, Jr Bruins, Cyclones, Kings, Giants and Bandits are all a complete joke because of this. All have a couple of good players at the u16 age, and a whole pile of crappy 03’s and a few full tuition paying bender 02’s making up their rosters making for a less than appealing option. BA and Islanders seem to be only good teams around here. Monarchs to far north for us but believe they are ok at this age, or at least they were last year.
If your on the Dboard complaining when your kid is 15, then the kid sucks and your a dboardDBAG!
Says the Dboard troll...
