“We” the idiot said “we”.. what position did you play? Congrats “we”! “We” mad it by not playing in NCDC, “we” did much more sophisticated things.. pinky out big boy!

Re: NCDC Draft

Look at last years group of Draft picks, all top tier kids who will most likely NEVER end up in NCDC. Its more of a wish list for these teams knowing they might get 1 or 2 in years to come. By the way, they don't take kids who are currently in the USPHL..lol

Ooohhhkkkaaayyy, so how you gonna hate on other two? Their dads coaches too?

Any time anyone from NCDC gets a D1 spot it's always the same response. There's always some kind of shade being thrown.

How about it's a good option for some players that's only going to get better?

Just like the world needs ditch diggers, D1 programs need 4th liners and healthy scratches, thank you NCDC.

Re: NCDC Draft

Most all of these kids go NCDC to NAHL, BCHL or USHL, then to D1. It’s a great local Tier 3 Jr feeder league.

Or if the kids is good, they go right to the USHL. Name some players that have gone from NCDC to USHL? Not U18 or U16, but NCDC?? I know of a few players that didn't make it in the USHL, that dropped down to NCDC, and they are lighting it up. Big difference in talent level.

The United States Premier Hockey League will hold the 2019 Futures Draft for the tuition-free National Collegiate Development Conference on Thursday, Jan. 31.

The draft, to be held by conference call among the 13 NCDC teams for 2019-20, will allow for teams to select players for future seasons beyond 2019-20, with birth years 2003 and 2004.

Players of these birth years are eligible unless they are currently a USPHL organizational asset of another NCDC team.

The Futures Draft will be six rounds, with the first-year Twin City Thunder (of Auburn, Maine) drafting first overall.

Tenders with 2003 and 2004 that were made before the Futures Draft count as a draft pick, with a limit of two tenders of these birth-year players per team.

The alphabetical results of the Futures Draft will be released on Thursday, Jan. 31, at USPHL.com/ncdc.

After months and months of scouting with our first pick in the NCDC futures draft, we select some kid who will never play for us, but we own his rights!

Re: NCDC Draft

The funny thing is, the kids of probably 95% of the parents making negative comments have no shot of ever playing NCDC, let along Tier I or II Juniors. A good chunk of the 95% probably have no clue about higher level Juniors and just wandered into the thread.

For the 5% with kids already playing Tier I or II Juniors, or that are close enough that they are legitimately targeting those levels, they should know the margins are absolutely razor thin, and that an additional opportunity to play tuition free hockey is in no way a bad thing. They're just negative by nature, I suppose. Otr are just arrogant pr!cks looking down on the unwashed.

The only people with any beef are the parents of the 95% playing youth, Midgets or Tier III in a program with an NCDC team, because they're paying the freight. If that's the issue, just come out and say it. Your kid's future after HS isn't bright, NCDC offers no benefit since he'll never be good enough to play there, and you don't like the hit to your wallet.

We're getting close, we'll see what happens this summer, and don't get me wrong - I absolutely would choose NAHL or Junior A over NCDC. But, I would choose NCDC over EHL, which I consider the best U.S. Tier III hockey (better than Premier).

Let's call it Tier II(A). Still really good hockey, and an achievement for the 95%.

Talk about "dumbing down," most people only quote phrases that are actually written or said. The phrase you're quoting doesn't appear anywhere. Even the sentiment doesn't appear.

Wait. We were supposed to get a call? ****, looks like another year of tier 2 U16.

Re: NCDC Draft

I count 11 teams....are they adding 2 more? And what is this, the free section of the USPHL?

Islanders Hockey Club
Jersey Hitmen
Junior Bruins
Connecticut Junior Rangers
Syracuse Stars
South Shore Kings
Northern Cyclones
Rochester Monarchs
New Jersey Rockets
P.A.L. Junior Islanders
Boston Bandits

Re: NCDC Draft

NH Jr Monarchs joined this season and the Twin City Thunder will start play next season.

At the Junior level, yes. You have to slot Midgets (U18/U16/U15) in there. Debatable where, but the reality is a lot of the players are interchangeable, and they're all pay-to-play. Sometimes it comes down to the practice schedules. Some kids billet or do on line school and play Juniors, some stay in school and play Midgets.

Probably not unless the kid plays for a good split season team. I remember a few years ago there was a public high school kid no one locally cared about (even though he played BA for a few years on some good teams) until he went out to the Midwest to play and then the USHL teams wanted him. Not sure what the kid ever ended-up doing though. Never a hero in your home town I guess. :slightly_frowning_face:

Looking strictly at the New England based teams, interesting that it's pretty evenly divided between prep, club, and public. Although if you limit it to New England based players, there were nearly twice as many local public's drafted as club. Not trying to start anything, I'm an accountant and love looking at numbers & trends.

Congratulations to the kids that got drafted, kinda cool to see names I know.

Youo have to recognize why they are drafting public school kids - its not because they are better players - its because they have a higher chance of playing in the NCDC eventually because the prep kids will be in higher levels of hockey (USHL, NAHL, etc.). Teams are realizing this and now are skipping over the top tier kids and selecting players that are more likely to be in that league.

Are you the same assclown that just keeps making stuff up?

Junior drafts don't matter. NCDC, NAHL, USHL, CHL, CCHL Bantam, etc etc. Being draft doesn't mean you'll ever play for that team, even if you WANT to.

All being drafted or tendered by a Junior team gets you is an invite to the Main Camp, with 59 to 99 other players. The same invite you can get for your kid if you know how to ask. Sure, if your kid decides to go - many don't - he goes in being a known player and get a longer look. A good Advisor can do the same thing for your kid.

If you can differentiate yourself, even a little, (and that's a big ifs) you will make the final cut-down camp of 40. From there, as many drafted/tendered players are cut as non-drafted players.

Then, even if you make the team, it's no guarantee you'll play. Or even stick. Look at the rosters. 45 players cycle through, 30 on the active roster, 20 skate each game. If they can replace you with what they regard as a better player - - See Ya!

Juniors is a tough gig. If your kid is 13/14/15, educate yourself before you consider taking the plunge.

Then - congrats! He makes the team! Now let's talk about billet family experiences...

As I said, you get a longer look. Doesn't mean you'll make the team. And making the team doesn't mean you'll play. And for the context of this thread, that's what people need to know.

Teammate of my oldest was drafted by a USHL team, top 100, at 15. "Made" the team. Suited up for 53 games, played a few shifts a game. 0-2-2, -12, 75 PIM (and he wasn't a goon). Came back home, played for the Jr. Bruins. Now he's with the Generals (bet you can guess where he played before Juniors).

Juniors is super competitive. Being drafted means very, very little.

I pointed it out because someone asked if any public's were drafted and the response was pretty far off base. The reason for public's being drafted is irrelevant to the original question, although I'm sure your response for the reason is correct as well.

As I said, I love numbers and trends and it will be interesting to watch over the next few years.

To everyone that knows much more than I, here is a question. If a U-16 player is already part of an organization, does that automatically make them the property of that org for their NCDC rights? I'm asking because I noticed that neither the BJB or Northern Cyclones drafted any players from their own teams so I'm assuming it must. (I could probably Google and find the answer myself but I'm being lazy.)

I believe he leads Sioux Falls in scoring. Even that team didn't realize he was good (that staff is a disaster when it comes to judging talent) and scratched the kid early in season a lot. He almost quit even.

Re: NCDC Draft

We have an 05 and are trying to understand what this draft means. So these teams now own the rights to these players?
Can these players continue playing in the organization they are in or do they need to leave next year? What about the kids at schools?
Do many of these kids have agents that reach out to these teams on their behalf or are these teams scouting?
Sorry for all the questions just trying to understand this particular process.

To the 05 Dad: This is the NCDC team saying "Hey, we see you, and when it comes time, you can come to our camp to try out for a spot" If you look at the list, 90% of those kids have no desire to play there unless forced to in a few years. The other 10% feel like they just made the league!

If kid is a top tier kid chances are he wont ever play in the NCDC unless other plans fail (USHL, etc.). Notice how the Jr Bruins drafted public school kids - thats where the player pool is for the NCDC. They stopped reaching for the stud elite players because they are aware its a wasted pick.

Keep lying.

If you prefer facts, go to Elite Prospects and look up the roster. Jr. Bruins have a dozen kids that either played Prep and graduated, could easily have played Prep and chose not to, or could be playing Prep today, anywhere they wanted. D1 commits including PC, Northeastern, Quinnipiac, Union College, Dartmouth. The team captain at BC was pay-to-play for the Jr. Bruins three years ago when BC reached out due to an injury. Has been a starter ever since.

What's your kid's resume? Juniors? College? Go ahead, you don't need to be specific, just league will do. I genuinely hope he is doing well. I still don't know what you would need to lie.

Are you trying to say the USHL and NAHL are not better leagues than the NCDC?

No. I posted earlier (not that you could know that), IMO NCDC is Tier 2A. Better than any Tier III Pay-to-Play, not as good as NAHL.

But, it's also local, and that has a lot of advantages. Easier to be noticed by NE colleges, able to live at home, live a "normal" life, see family/friends/girlfriend, less free time / stay out of trouble. Billet arrangements are hit-or-miss.

Plus it's truly free (well, almost, there are out-of-pocket expenses like gas, meals). If your kid is in the midwest, you're going to be flying him out for camps, flying him back, or flying out to see him, which means airfare, hotels, rental cars. I read once that the average free tuition Junior family spends upwards of $20K per year.

So essentially....
-Top tier kids play USHL - majority go onto to D1
-Next tier kids play NAHL -- some go D1 -some D3
-Third tier kids NCDC - Most go D3 - some D1

So if you are drafting for NCDC players then why in the world would NCDC programs draft top tier kids when they know full well they arent going to play NCDC. As mentioned - look that the Jr Bruins draft selecting public HS kids - those players are the ones more likely to play NCDC down the road rather than some 03 stud. Jr Bruins get it.

Yes,

If a kid is legit, NCDC won't waste the Pic

The Top 03's from Sebs/Dexter and 04 from Thayer wasn't on it because NCDC knew they would never play for them

That’s because those Top 03s from Sebs/Dexter were already drafted by NCDC teams in the 2018 draft - sorry your Top 04 didn’t get drafted....

Isn't it awesome when the facts show up guys that are talking out of their asses? Happened last night in the College Coaches thread.

Re: NCDC Draft

Congrats to all the players taken. Based off this thread, I guess I hope you never have to play in the NCDC :grimacing:

Exactly!!!

Re: NCDC Draft

Serious question....how does the local NCDC league overall stack up to other jr leagues around the country?

Re: NCDC Draft

I already answered that twice. Not as good as NAHL, better than EHL or any other Tier III league. Consider it Tier IIA.

And, it really isn't disputable. Anybody that says there is a Tier III Junior league that's better than NCDC is just making **** up.

Re: NCDC Draft

Is it bad that my kid is in the USPHL and I didn't even know this was a thing or care that it is a thing? :joy:

Re: NCDC Draft

Can you play in NCDC as a 15 year old?
How long do teams hold the rights of drafted players?

Re: NCDC Draft

You can try..but will most likely be either too fast or too physical. Have to remember very few players are happy to be there so they compete hard constantly and will not let a 15 year old take there spot on a team or show them up in a game.

My 15 year-old was one year away from playing in the USHL, now playing for top Hockey East school. USPHL is a joke.

So what are you doing here? Your son aged out..move on man. I dont care if the league is a joke, there is not a 15 year old around who can do anything productive in NCDC.
