Re: College Programs Folding

They were on the verge of folding as are the Alaska schools so no surprise but if you were really hoping to get the last of the last D1 spots at UAH, the CHL isn't going to do much for you.

As a general rule, people that think they are smarter than everyone else end up looking dumber more often than the other way around.

Alabama Huntsville announces they are folding today, watch out as this could lead to domino effect in Alaska and the Atlantic Conference. Posting on the High School board because spots will be tightening and the CHL may now come into play for some of your kids.
Just the beginning. There will be a multiple compression to the entire sport, college, prep, youth. A good thing because it got out of hand and controlled by so many for their own financial gain and in detriment to the kids. The shakeout will be severe but for the younger players 5+ years from now there will be opportunity to play college hockey. In the interim there will be a dramatic shift back to Canada for the best players. College hockey was a great path but got exploited and now there will be a much needed correction.

Ok so let me get this straigt. College hockey with institutional and alumni funding support will contract more than the CHL that relies on crowds and ticket sales? And contraction overall will bring more opportunities for kids 5 years from now?

By the way, have you read any articles on the financial practices of the CHL teams?

Guy’s entitled to his opinion but this one is full of holes. Prep hockey ain’t going anywhere. Youth hockey contracted more in the Great Recession than it will now. The biggest explosion in “elite” teams came when those kids started coming back in 2010.

Full of holes eh? Major Universities are planning on not opening this Fall. Notre Dame, others are moving back starting 1 month in anticipation of a second wave but Prep hockey ain’t going anywhere? Good luck with that.

Nice backpedal, Joe. You weren't talking about delays in the season. You said "there will be a multiple compression [sic] to the entire sport, college, prep, youth."

A school delaying their season by a month is several galaxies from "a much needed correction."

Starting early so semester ends on Thanksgiving so students won’t have to travel back in anticipation of a second wave late Fall. Get it?? It’s in the article. Thanks for posting!

Re: College Programs Folding

Looks like UAH is not folding its hockey program after all. Players who already transferred are gone, While a GoFundMe campaign impressively raised $500,000 and some boosters stepped up, they don’t have sustainable funding, a conference, proximity to other hockey programs, etc. While they have a hard working coach and I wish them well, this is a tough environment with those disadvantages. They weren’t competitive even before all this.
