As a Canadian I can vouch for the last statement. Hockey is a monopoly in Canada. Hockey Canada runs the show. Players are property and not allowed to make their own decisions from as early at U9. No matter how good a player is, they have built a system of rules to cut off any messing around. Also, their draft is something like 14 rounds and on top of that they have Teir II, Jr B and Jr C hockey so not sure they are looking for American talent. You would be better off looking at Tier II Jr. A, that league and many like it were created to find ways around the rules that hockey Canada has imposed. Also, bigger issue is you lose your NCAA eligibility if you go to the OHL.
Canadian University hockey is a joke and if you want to get your education and play, NCAA is the only way. Honestly wish it wasn't, your education system is so poor when guys come back to Canada they have to do a lot more work to get up to our standard. Still free education and hockey is still worth going to school on the short bus.
