League is shaping up to be solid. NCAA scouts allowed starting mid April. I was hoping someone would organize a spring league like this, give kids back some of the games they missed this winter and outside of the reach of school policies which are all over the place. Kudos to IM for putting this together!
Unfortunately, boarding school players will not be able to play as they wont let them off campus. Great idea though, maybe have a summer version of it also?
I hope its better than its top 185 Mass HS Players report. that was almost comical.
I think they are only taking Prep players? "Current Prep aged players" 44 F, 28D will be taken in a "draft"
Their way of weeding out the not so good players (not saying there aren't good players in MIAA) but I think they want this to be high end, potential college players only, but agree, the boarding schools wont let kids off campus until they leave for good in May.
500 applicants- being picked by neutral scouts who have never seen more than 1/2 these kids
See, what started as something for the kids due to the Pandemic turns into “well it’s really only for the 80 kids who USHL, NAHL, QMJHL, NHL might want to see”
The rest of you are still screwed, but it’s for the kids.
I do not think they ever hid it was for kids with the potential to play at higher levels to practice with and to be seen playing against similar level players. They have been denied that opportunity this winter.. Don't worry there will be plenty of others doing similar leagues.
How do you want them to do it?
First come/first served? Friends & Family? Blind tryout? Everyone makes a team - instead of 4 teams have 15?
For anyone younger than 04, this year is just one year, for a lot of these older kids this is it - didn't have a chance this season to be seen by college coaches, didn't have a chance this season to be seen by USHL/NAHL coaches. the draft eligible kids haven't had an opportunity to be seen in competitive games this season. Prioritizing those that need to be seen is appropriate for what they communicated from the beginning that they were trying to do.
BTW...It is a private league - a one time shot - they want it to be competitive and can structure it how ever they want.
And they have a great new email list to cultivate subscribers. Capitalism is providing a service people want and getting paid as much as you can for it.
and why is that a problem?
Think those not picked will unsubscribe? Tough call, players/ parents are sensitive right now. Imagine they take these deserving 80 kids and lose 420 subscriptions. Any talk of how much this league costs?
When is the “draft” for this
Interesting concept. Seeing it’s based in MA, will they be taking out of state players? Will be tough for boarding students to participate I would assume as they can’t really leave campus until June”ish”. Really like the idea though, even if just MA kids, it will be great exposure to some good coaching, skills, etc.
Yo, did we make it?
