I'm not sure why I expecting more but this "league" is going to suck. 1/2 full benches, no body contact..why are we here again? Giving my son 1 more week but nothing to gain here but bad habits. Also, lots of younger kids who wont see the ice at their school, why are they here?
You a right, just cancel the league.
Back to the beach...no bad habits there!
OP trashing a league that my son is trying to get into. Greedy azz!
What were you expecting?
They posted rosters a week or 2 ago - you could have judged the talent for yourself and not shown up. If your kid is too good for it, don't play. I'm sure they will be able to find a fill in for him.
IDK my kid played in a game in foxboro last night, mostly 02,03,04s and a few 05s. Bunch of D1 college commits. No hitting but definitely body contact. Good fast paced game.
This is a great post. This and many summer leagues like it don't hold much weight anymore. A few years back, there was 2 or 3 really high end leagues that put the better/best prep players in 1 place, it was competitive, college scouts would come watch, etc. Now, kids don't need it. Now there are advisors, skating coaches, prep coaches pumping these kids tires on Social Media and college coaches using Covid as a marketing tool to get these kids to their 13 summer "showcases" up and down the east coast, who needs a summer league?
hit the gym, hit the beach.
I dont go for ice snobbery. Any ice these days is "good ice". It is at the very least conditioning. If your kid is affected by others play, I am sorry, he just isnt that good. Anyone who says their kid wont skate because he will pick up bad habbits at 16 is telling everyone his kid has no chance of going anywhere. The other thing I would say is that I would not judge the ice by how many "college comitts" are on the ice. That is by far the most meaningless designation a kid can have. They can be bought and paid for and with the amount 2005s that have already comitted, what does that even mean for a 2003? I only say this because, who gives a crap? If your kid can get on the ice and can play, why not do it? If they have short benches, even better, where do I sign up???? I will take ice where I can get it.
PHL is a better league top to bottom
Watched both games Monday night. I must have been at a different event than what NEHJ covered.... GHEEEEEEZZZZ
Sad for them
Makes no sense for them to be there. Its a no win situation. They shine, and you get the "well, there is no contact allowed, so they should be the best" They play average with everyone else, and you get the "How can this be a college commit" The NHL Central scouting thing shouldn't even be taken seriously, I mean come on..NHL? No shot. Hope the kids have fun for a few hours on a Monday night, but this is not a "league". NEHJ is there so their paying customers can get some print..did you see the preface to the article? laughable.
"These are just my raw observations taken from my scout’s notebook- this is not intended to rank or project players, but should be taken in the context of instant analysis of summer hockey" what does this even mean?
It means that he was sent to watch a pickup hockey game and he made sure he had a list of the names that were playing that he has heard of and he was scratching down a few blurbs about those names. Nothing more. Safe bet if there are names at an event that he has read about already and commenting on these names will make him look like he has a keen eye for talent. Simple. Safe bet. I have a hard time understanding how some of these kids have traveled the world for youth hockey yet they are still considered to be new to the seen or a surprise talent These trips started in Mites. Caught bits of both games, man he must have been distracted to write what he wrote.
If kids skate and no one posts about it, did it even happen?
