Problem is it's the offensive defensman that gets all the recognition. Have seen it many times over the past few years, kids that skate the puck up the ice and leave their partner high and dry with 2 and 3 on one's and can't play even a little defense get D1 commits and drafted in the USHL. My kid has been a stay at home defenseman his entire life, makes great tape to tape breakout passes, perfect indirect passes, great stick, strong at moving bodies from the front of the net, wins the puck battles in the corners and behind the net, and kills almost every penalty and has only been on the ice for 12 goals against in 4 years of varsity in CCL Div 1., never does the useless one timers that hit the net about 2% of the time but has a rocket of a wrist shot and quick release from the point keeping it low and hard and nothing but invites to USHL and NAHL camps, goes to camp does the same thing 2 camps this year and on ice for 1 goal in 8 total games and nothing, no all star game nada. So yeah, keep skating the pucks D men because at the end of the day defense matters less and less and you have to stand out somehow!!!

How many selfish forwards did you scout?? I'm sure it was more than the D men. Forwards that would rather take a blind no look shot that either gets blocked of misses the net by 5 feet than pass it back to the wide open defensman, doesn't drop back to cover for the D man when he does go in for a shot, can't see them when they drop down in the O zone for the back door pass, too busy trying to fly out of the zone looking for a breakaway, can't get the puck that final 2 feet out of the zone because they're afraid to get hit then blame the D or goalie when they had multiple opportunities to get the puck out of the zone. I could go on and on...

We scouted the JR A division. Mostly Roc City teams, Boston Hockey Club, Boston Jr Blues and a few JDM teams. EVERY team had forwards in position for breakouts, centers flying on the swing, and dmen not recognizing it and attempting to take off. You are right, some forwards were selfish in the offensive zone but they all worked the cycle pretty well and a few we liked the most back checked hard every shift. Roc City 02/03, BHC.

What players did you like on those clubs?

We were really focused on Forwards who can play their position and play all 3 zones.
Roc 02- 9, 18- NAHL Players
Roc 03- 9 (Nichols), 18 (Kent)- Kids in Prep, look forward to seeing them play this year
BHC- 4 (Cushing), 17 (St Marks)- 2 of our favorite centers in the tournament, big seasons ahead for them!
JDM Yellow- 9 (Pomfret), 16 (NCDC)- both on the smaller side but play position well
BJB- 15 (Tufts), 10 (Dexter)

BHC and BJB Goalies were really good also.

This is our very short list. Again, these forwards played their position really well, and played all 3 zones consistently.

Thats whats wrong with many of you USA dads out there. You don't know anything about building a team. You want the kid who scores 2 a game and ends up a -1. We build from the center of the ice out and the crease and up. Give me 2 RH and 2 LH 200 foot Centers and 2 strong goalies and we will build a playoff team every year, as we do. :flag-ca:

No scouting list, just prospects for our team next season. Why do you daddy’s get so offended when someone shares what they saw at a tournament. We did not scout D because we are all set for at least 2 years on the back end. Would love to see these kids in our sweaters! 🇨🇦
