Re: College Commitments

Covid has bumped the average age of a D1 college commitment from 17/18 to 19 as it should be from the start. For all you 19 and even 20 year olds out there, keep grinding, get yourself in the best possible position to be seen this year and do your job, we are watching you guys. Coaches, help these talented kids get on our radar, we cant watch them if we don't have rosters and a little back info on them. Very excited to see these talented and dedicated players this season.
Who says? Commits aren't 19/20. Kid from MC just committed to BU. Hes not graduating until 2024.

Re: College Commitments

Here we go this will get the MIAA parents saying you can play high school and still get a D1 deal. Let's be real here very good player played high school to rack up the points to get his stock up higher. If he played prep/ good full season Academy model he wouldn't have had the numbers, he did in high school this year. He could have played JV at MC and still would have gotten a D1 offer so this will be a bad example.

I'm pretty impressed he didn't pick NU though figured that was a sure lock. Also does this get BU back in the game with getting the top Mass kids again. It's changed lately with NU getting the better players from Mass/ New England.

College Hockey Inc posted some timeline this morning on twitter that the average age for a commitment is now 19. I assume they have real data behind that statement? I guess we will see, there are a TON of 19 year old's playing this year with no commitment. Lets see how many get the nod.

No kid with a Father who Coaches D1 Hockey can be counted. He had his commitment at birth. Average Prep D man going to have a very hard time in USHL this year, wish him the best, but he is average.

Re: College Commitments

Helps a little that his father is HC at NU

Daddy making phone calls.

Kid couldn't make the NTDP and couldn't make the USA Selects either. BUT he is SO wanted he's the first one on Aug 1st to announce his commitment. The BS continues...

Re: College Commitments

I was told by D1 assistant coach last summer the avg age for committ is 18yrs 9months. It seems old but when you think most prep players reclass and do year of juniors that seems about right.

Re: College Commitments

Yo, all these little kids getting committed and I cant even get a call or email back from a Jr team. Went to Top Prep, only had 17 points last year, guess that's not good enough to play hockey in New England.

The hope was always that as kids progress and got older the politics would lessen and the talent would be allowed to rise to the top. Not so, you need NHL/D1 bloodlines, play for the all the right clubs/teams, get the camp invites and have an unrelenting hype machine in order to get noticed. It's a bad joke.

Re: College Commitments

Sucks but you are correct! It's the way the entire world is going unfortunately. The MC kid has no business playing USHL or even sniffing a D1 school. Average player at best. Dad connections working OT for him.

Good news is, D men are typically late bloomers. . . but if the kid doesn't have it, there is no bloom to be had.

Yes, I'm sure you are 100% correct. No chance the USHL team he signed with watched him throughout the entire season before giving him a guaranteed spot on the team. They pretty much just give away spots in the USHL anyways. I bet they didn't think of the long term repercussions if they don't end up playing him. I'm sure they'd love to lose their long-term relationship with both NU and BU. The things that get said on this board...

This right here  Let the kid enjoy this as it only gets harder from here.

I don't understand people and their negative comments, I for one am rooting for him. My son has played against him, and he's a good player. As with most early commits, it can go either way from here, but I hope he does well.

Re: College Commitments

It was a swap for JP’s kid to go to NU in 2028-29.

Re: College Commitments

All I know is my phone hasn’t rung yet and I’m about done with this s hit. Not sure what else scouts need to see, I’ve played up every year, never been cut from a team in my life, 2 time captain in tier 2 juniors and still nothing. WTF!

Re: College Commitments

Give the kid a break . I have watched him for years and he will be just fine. And so what if his father helped along , every one of you would do the same . Kid is 16 years old but doomed by all you miserable a-holes who have nothing better to do. Go beat your kid or something, maybe that will make you feel better.

Re: College Commitments

OP here, didn't mean for this to turn into a kid bashing post. Wish the best for those who committed this week, but also pulling more for the older guys who are grinding in weight room and on the ice with the similar skill set but just have not received the same attention for whatever reason. You would think schools want kids who can make an immediate impact and have proven so in the league they play in. Time will tell.

Re: College Commitments

Quite a few of these kids have yet to prove they can dominate their current level of play so not sure why a college needed to jump on them now. Good luck to those kids though....keep working or you'll get passed.

We love watching our fellow Western MA players getting some love from the College Ranks, so, we made a list! We have followed these players for years now, in a po****tion of about 815,000 over 4 counties there are very few legit hockey prospects to watch, but here's our list of prospects:
1. 05- RL- Pope, USNTDP, BC
2. 04- SM- Selects, Tri-City, UMASS
3. 03- BS- Pope, Hill School,*unknown this year*, Holy Cross
4. 05- RS- Pope, Westy, RPI
5. 05- MH- Pope, Westy, RPI
6. 04- KS- Eaglebrook, SSM, Sioux Falls, UMASS
We have 2 Top Prospects that we are just waiting to be taken:
1. 03- MP- Eaglebrook, Pics, Cushing, *Hearing this week may be headed to the Q
2. 05- CH- Pics, PAL (NCDC)

Take a ride over to the Olympia and you can catch 5 or 6 of these guys on the ice together all summer, we have gone over once a week all summer to check in and this group works non-stop, really excited to follow them over the next year. All great kids with the right attitude knowing they have to compete 100% of the time to keep up with their Boston brothers,

Re: College Commitments

This entire college thing is out of control. My son just graduated Prep, is a late 03, has been speaking to the same D1 school for about 6 months. Coach told him yesterday that there are a few “98’s” he is competing with for a spot. So my 18 year old is competing for the same spot as the 24 year old. 6 years difference.. the best part is that the coach couldn’t get in touch with the 24 year old this week because the 25 year old was on his freaking honeymoon! NCAA ice hockey is the stupidest sport in all of the NCAA.

Play hockey, play college hockey. Just don’t. You don’t like the rules don’t parti****te. Everyone knows that the 5th super senior year has done a number on recruiting. This is not even the coaches fault. I don’t begrudge current athletes the fifth year option. If, and that’s a big IF on the dboard, your son is an 03 senior you knew for a while now what he is up against, that he will play juniors before getting a shot at a spot.

Oh, well, if you don’t begrudge anybody then it must be right

Re: College Commitments

Saying you were the captain of a Tier II junior team is like saying you were the tallest midget in the room.

All I know is my phone hasn’t rung yet and I’m about done with this s hit. Not sure what else scouts need to see, I’ve played up every year, never been cut from a team in my life, 2 time captain in tier 2 juniors and still nothing. WTF!
I watched a bunch of kids play in front of college coaches today.

A few of them are legit players that during normal cir***stances would have been committed. I feel bad for them.

They did everything right and the timing didn’t line up because of Covid. While it will get better in another year it was disheartening for the younger kids playing against these kids and saying that if they can’t get committed then what chance do I have.
