I have seen many JV teams with C's on their shirts. usually hand me down jerseys from varsity and the letters were never taken off. My sons JV team had captains, but other kids had the C's that didn't mean anything.

Definitely happened. My son played against them and there 4-5 varsity kids playing, one was the captain
