Re: D3/D4 High School

A month back someone was talking about a D3 or D4 high school player getting college looks? Hows that going?
Stupid question incoming, but why does it matter if the kid plays at a D3/D4 school? Isn\'t it determined by class size? If a kid is good, plays on a club team that has a lot of exposure why couldnt they get college looks? I get that the normal process is to go to a prep or juniors but its not out of the realm of possibility, is it?

And does getting looks mean that they are asking him to come in and play as an 18 y/o or is it more that he is on their radar and discussing the path to playing (ie. go do a PG year and/or Jrs)?
Well, the original post was that Jr hockey is so bad (USPHL Premier) that college coaches are reaching out to D3/D4 player so I'm curious as to how that's going. I haven't heard of any player dominating either of those leagues so I guess it was just BS. Would have been a great story though.
Nobody is getting any looks from colleges. This is whack a puck low level hockey with seniors putting up points against 8th and 9th graders. Literally throw a puck on net and it's going in as most towns don't have competent goalies. Some teams have kids making varsity that have never played before. What is there for a college coach to evaluate versus this type of competition? That being said there are certainly some players who could play beyond HS but they typically transfer to better schools/prep or will need to start juniors on EHLP and USPHL Premier teams after senior year.

Don't go overboard.

There are kids playing EHLP that would not see the ice at some high Schools.

In any event. Take a second to think that maybe kids are not staying at certain high schools for the hockey. Maybe kids turn down prep offers to leave for other reasons beyond hockey. Maybe kids play on high end teams outside of high school, or make an impact at an invite camp or combine. Maybe hockey is there second sport ?

anyhow, its going fine. If you have a more specific question I will gladly answer.
