As pointed out here first last spring, the floundering UMass hockey program needed to step-up their local recruiting game. The posts have been read!
"When Greg Carvel took over the UMass hockey program at the end of March, he said one of his top priorities would be securing top in-state talent."
Thanks to all that brought it all to their attention!
Congrats to the next 7-10 Mass kids that get to play at their home state school!!!
I think they have the right idea to look locally. Similar to the Bruins that have a scouting staff all over the globe yet they pick many (too many actually) local kids. Let's make UMass the place for local kids to play.
How soon does he de-commit to go to BC or BU so he can play in a Beanpot...
Just a matter of time.
I watched the kid play and he projects out to be a good player. Good size already, nice shot but he still has a way to go with the technical / coachable aspects of playing the position. By far not the most advanced defensemen in local high school hockey in the past few years but with a little coaching his game should pick up. Other local, less than ready, (and undersized) defensemen have advanced on to the USHL and are making central scouting lists.
The UMass kid or a different kid?
Considering it might have been a step down from the public school he was going to it was never in doubt.
