Re: BU and BC winless

Recruiting. It all comes down to recruiting. Over the past few years players have realized there are other viable options that really want them.
Nothing better then attending a school that truly wants you.
Yup
It comes down to recruiting players that will make up a strong TEAM. BU and BC have focused on NTDP players--they each have more than any other college hockey team. Problem is those kids come in younger, are less likely to stay, and dont tend to do the gritty things necessary to win. Both of their coaches might want to rewatch "Miracle" then think about doing what Herb Brooks did, recruit a real team with players who fill roles rather than just rely on superstars. Of course Herb Brooks way takes a lot more work than just running your finger down the NTDP roster.
So true. Look at what umass lowell did a few years ago with an older seasoned team. Much more parody in college hockey these days. Same with d3's better teams

Re: BU and BC winless

Lost to Bentley today. Lost a recruit last week, Wahlstrom thinking of heading back to USHL or OHL.

York old and tired, daddy coach on bench. Not the recipe for success.

Re: BU and BC winless

Bottom line, AOC is not ready to be a head coach and JY needs to prob retire. Other HE schools are doing a great job. AOC has changed lines every single game that I have watched and looking at the line chart. Went to both BU/BC games this past weekend and all the freshman that played belonged on the ice. You people can sit at your computers and be as jealous as you want, its a long 4 years and I am sure they all will be just fine. OW may move on, but that's his choice, the kid kid is still a 1st round pick and hell of a player. Look at Prov, they also have a 1st rounder with 1 point. There have been plenty of great pros that did not have great freshman years, its a big transition. IMO BU will probably struggle more as AOC is over his heard and PP will probably get more involved as he has more experience. Everyone is allowed to have growing pains.

Re: BU and BC winless

The mighty have fallen. Hockey East (at one time arguably the best conference in college hockey) has seen better days. They have 7 teams in bottom 20. Two of those teams are bottom 10 with Merrimack being the worst. Hearing Merrimack will drop to Div. 3 in 19/20 where they belong. Need strong program to replace them.

It's all the verbal commits coming around to bite them on the ass. Between underclassmen (at the time) and all the verbals, they "committed" 30+ young men when the whole thing snowballed a few years back. Some panned out, some didn't. And if they don't honor the verbals, then they can't get future verbals.

Re: BU and BC winless

Merrimack can't drop to D3 at this point. They are a D2 school so hockey can either play up at D1 or struggle like the handful of remaining D2 programs.

Merrimack is going D1 --- for everything.

Re: BU and BC winless

just looked up merrimack OUCH. will be interesting to see what happens with them.

Re: BU and BC winless

Hey, we beat both BU and BC this year, that's a huge accomplishment. Also, the new coach will do a great job with this group of young men. I am personally excited to see where the program goes.

Re: BU and BC winless

Will do a great job? Is losing 9-1 to Northeastern convincing you of that? Would be doing lot better under previous coach but he's coaching pro now.

I'd like to see Merrimack move to either the ECAC or Atlantic Hockey conference. I think it would be a better fit for them.

Re: BU and BC winless

With Borek there now they are not going anywhere for the time being...They are going to give him time to recruit and build the program up....if not then they should move to another conference...

Re: BU and BC winless

We will be fine, just watch. Borek will do a great job, may take a couple years. HE is changing, BC and BU are not the places to go anymore. There are better coaches at other schools. Lowell best BU last night, that just shows that a coach can win over talent. Norm can out coach many of the guys out there. Albie May or may not figure out how to be a head coach. UNH will be a team in the future as well, Souza is a great coach. Just look where Umass was before, now look at them, #1 in the country before loss last night.
