Can a player who played 1-3 seasons in qmjhl play ncaa d1 or d3 hockey after they leave qmjhl? I always thought no all they can play is ncaa club hockey? What are the facts?
Depends on circumstances. Have to apply to NCAA. Will definitely lose some eligibility but again, depends on circumstances. Lots of info online. Google it.
Historically that's been a 'no.' Kids who have been there and skated in tryouts are even told not to take any of the free stuff home, even if it was by mistake because you would lose eligibility. Sticks, socks, practice jerseys maybe even stick tape needs to be returned. Forget it if you actually play a game. But hey, your kid could be one of the few who takes part in the free Canadian college package after they finish Junior hockey.
It's not a "no" meaning you can never play college hockey, it's that depending on circumstances you lose eligibility but the rules are not published. NCAA does what they want, case by case.
Show me a players name in hockey dB that played in qmjhl and got paid then played ncaa college hockey.. rules state play chl then lose ncaa eligibility.
NCAA is judge jury and executioner but sometimes in a good mood. Sad part is people don’t research and just assume what they hear is true. NCAA let’s kids back in but you need to kiss the ring and show you are serious. Your going to lose a year plus of eligibility and you have to sit out a year plus while being fully enrolled at the school. You can’t do your sentence while playing in the USHL.

Seems like it would be possible, but a huge, huge risk. A soft 'maybe,' and sitting out a year to do so? Heck a clean commit deal with a university is a shaky proposition at best but thanks for the research.
No one said it was smart, just possible. And you don’t just sit out a year or more but you also give up a year of eligibility as well. So if you go major junior you better be sure.
Wow, those are some career stats. A 6'2" 200 pound wing who played 4 years in the OHL and two years in the USHL (basically 6 years of top top junior hockey) and he ends up at Salve Regina University where he puts up 9 points in 25 games. Unless there is a whole lot more to the story, I think it's about time he contacts the staffing agency about a job.
Four years total. Years overlap. Early developer none the less to play in the OHL at 16 years old but he obviously peaked early. That's the problem with juniors. Superstar at 16 doesn't mean superstar at 20. That's why NCAA is more appealing. Fewer games yes but plenty of time to develop. If you don't, still get a degree. Kind of a no brainer but not for the knuckle draggers in Canada who glamorize major junior as a destination instead of a stepping stone.
