Re: NCDC expanding?

There is elite level talent to support NHL expansion. There is zero talent to support junior hockey expansion.

And where, pray tell, is that elite level talent coming from?

Hint: They aren't farm boys from Saskatchewan.

Re: NCDC expanding?

AHL, KHL Europe.

Seriously are you equating junior hockey expansion as the same as NHL expansion?

Re: NCDC expanding

USHL could expand because the level of talent in the league has increased due to NCAA becomming more desireable but they did so at the same time as expanding import limits so they get more high level talent from Canada and Europe. If they expand again they would have to import more.

If NCAA were to expand by more than 1 program here or there they would probably only do so but lifting the ban on major junior kids. That would only be if the entire Pac 12 started hockey teams and the rest of the Big 10 for example.

What I'm saying is it's illogical to maintain that the expansion of talent only happens at certain levels. The game is global (including U.S. and Canadian Junior hockey) and the talent at every level has expanded.

There are more kids able to compete at the NCAA level than there are slots. Same for USHL. Same for NAHL. Same for NCDC. Sure, down at the bottom of the Tier III food chain there are families being ripped off by greedy leagues. That will exist whether NCDC expands or not. It would be nice to think that will end if expansion at the higher levels happens. It won't.

It's becoming harder and harder for American kids to advance. Truth. More Americans are making it to the NHL, but up and down the chain, the U.S. Junior hockey spots that used to be predominantly available for Americans are up for grabs to kids from every country in the developed hockey world. Including China.

Re: NCDC expanding?

I want free hockey. Can I just sign up for NCDC?

So what you are saying is you wish your kid had more slots available to him or less competition for the ones that exist. Sorry but that's life. If he needs NCDC expansion to keep his hockey career going then it's really time to move on.

Re: NCDC expanding?

Bingo, we have a winner!

NCDC just solidified its fate as even more of a joke than it is today!

Some of the top point leaders in some teams played on bad U16s teams last year. Give me a break folks!

Watched good game yesterday between NCDC's two top teams -- Jersey Hitmen & Jr. Bruins. It's too bad gap between best in league & some of the other teams is so wide

Seriously? Creating more slots for lesser players is in fact a bad thing. Bad for the good players. Bad for the lesser players. Thats why there are hierarchies in leagues/tiers. No one benefits from watering things down. They should be contracting the league. Make the competition level higher and make it more meaningful and accomplishemen to make a team. Then someone might actually go watch and/or scout.

And yes, by adding Arizona State is a bad thing if your don\'t correspondingly cut an Alabama Huntsville or Anchorage. Those teams get worse but somoene has to play them. They are so bad that those games are excluded from the pairwise rankings because beating them actually hurts your ranking. Not good for college hockey

There is always an implication beyond the obvious. Adding teams is fine as long as the total stays at around 60. If the number of teams grows where there arent enough talent to field them, you\'ll have a football situation growing where you will have power conferences and the others and the two will play each other less and less. A two tiered D1 college system.
So, by your reasoning, adding the VGK is a bad thing. Having another 50 or so young men able to make a living playing hockey from the Seattle expansion is a bad thing. Hell, the extra 26 teams since the Original Six are a bad thing.

Someone lives under a rock.
Pretty stupid counter. NHL has controlled expansion based upon demand for the product and supply of talented players. And given that it has not always worked. Expansion from original six did go too fast at certain points and NHL had limited growth in it's following. Entry of Russia/Europe players and USA's developemnt of players changed everything.

Junior hockey has already had uncotrolled expansion to the point where it's a joke below the USHL/NAHL level. You can argue the NAHL is over saturated with teams but at least they do so with USAH blessing and some subsidies.

Re: NCDC expanding?

I bet the guy living under the rock thinks it's a great idea to spend billions of dollars on a wall the middle of no where that even the people living in those states realize it's the stupidest thing going. Make America Back-ass-wards again.

Re: NCDC expanding?

NAHL has announced that a new team is going into Lewiston, Maine. Between the Generals and the new Maine team, the geographic squeeze begins on the NCDC.

Could hurt the new Maine NCDC team, for sure. But, I don't think the Generals are really bothering the MA NCDC teams.

Most NAHL teams aren't drawing players within commuting ditance.

Your right, lower talent level at NCDC

Re: NCDC expanding?

NCDC equivalent to a low end u18 team from the T1EHL

Slow, bad bad passing, limited systematic play. A few good players in league, lots of bad ones.
