Re: College Coach Carousel

Anony
I understand it. Going to 2nd place Bentley was a step up from 7th place Miami (conference rankings). It's also a pretty specialized profession as I don't imagine you can just walk down the street and find a college coach. Someone else lost out on a job opportunity that this person took and the team is left short staffed right as the season is gearing up. I hope there was a headhunter fee paid so Bentley gets a full refund.
Are you an idiot?

Just wondering, in this age of commits/de-commits, if this insanity has finally made its way to the coaching level?

\"Providence has hired Joel Beal to replace Kris Mayotte. Beal had recently taken assistant job at Bentley.\"

The man just accepted the Bentley job in July and now in August he bails presumably so he can move up to Hockey East and work for his old coach. Is there no loyalty anymore to giving someone your word?? If players have to sit out a year shouldn\'t coaches?
This is their profession, they want to move up, make more money and be with top programs, you can't understand that? It's not different than any other job.
See Josh McDaniels, Indianapolis Colts.

Re: College Coach Carousel

First off he didn't leave Miami to go to Bentley. No one goes to Atlantic Hockey as a step up. He was fired from Miami when the head coach was let go and the new guy brought in his staff. So where's the loyalty in that? Where's the school "keeping it's word". All the faux outrage when someone moves on a timeline that you don't approve of is a joke. I'm sure every assistant in atlantic hockey applied for the PC job.

Re: College Coach Carousel

We are a loooooong ways away from College but what happens to the early recruits that a coaching staff has if they leave the school, can the incoming staff change their minds and the kids end up "back on the market"?

Verbals are 100% non-binding, for any reason whatsoever - coaching change, change of mind, kid doesn't develop - and practically valueless nowadays. Even NLIs/scholarships are year to year.

IMO early commitments were bad for kids. Which is why they no longer are allowed. The exception was the projected early round NHL draft picks that wanted to not have to chat with 5 scouts every game. Early commits made sense, then.

There are no firm commitments until the kid signs a NLI and the NLI is between the kid and the school, not the coach. Until that time the kid or the school/coach can change their mind. After the NLI is signed then the kid and the school are bound but only for one year.

Out of all the posts, you found this one worthy of deletion?

Not the OP, but sorry if it was an insult to your delicate sensibilities.
