My playing your age comment was in regards to mid to low level tier 3 as the alternative. NAHL, USHL, BCHL, etc of course you play up.

I don’t think all 02’s (17) should play U18 but majority should. And I don’t think any 02 should play tier 3 juniors but just my opinion

And, actually, if you talk to people that really know the sport, they will tell you that the rush to play junior is hurting kid's development. There's no reason for 16 - 18 year olds to not play against 16 - 18 year olds, either in Prep or FS, and then against 21 year olds after they graduate/age out of Midgets.

Sadly, like this poster, too many parents think if a kid is "still 'playing your age' at 18, your not that good." I assume he means the kid is playing, not the parent.

And it just spirals from there.

Spoken like a liberal elitist. I have news for you. If you are not fast tracked into the NTDP program at age 16, 17, 18 then it is better to stay with your age group. None of this matters until after high school is done. Play the best competition possible for the amount of money you are willing to spend.

High School = no money, garbage hockey
FS U18/U16 = much better hockey with more money spent. This is the best hockey outside of New England and is slowly turning the tide here in New England to being the best option.

Unfortunately, I have been working with ICE agents in the area. It seems we have a problem with illegals posing as Prep players from Canada. It is easy to tell they are illegals because they can’t beat a FS team. Perhaps you need help evaluating players.

10x better than EHLP (Goon Hockey), Prep (money laundering), and high school(garbage hockey). The FS model is the only sane option in my book. Too bad you don’t have the balls to communicate. But you Like playing games.

Goodness, is you are still \\\\\\\"playing your age\\\\\\\" at 18, your not that good. It\\\\\\\'s amazing that all these parents buy into the U16 & U18 thing, club owners are geniuses, keeps the parents spending more money thinking their kid still has a shot at something. If your kid is good, he will be playing with older kids, that\\\\\\\'s how it works, that\\\\\\\'s how it always had worked. Your all sheep.
Spoken like a liberal elitist. I have news for you. If you are not fast tracked into the NTDP program at age 16, 17, 18 then it is better to stay with your age group. None of this matters until after high school is done. Play the best competition possible for the amount of money you are willing to spend.

High School = no money, garbage hockey
FS U18/U16 = much better hockey with more money spent. This is the best hockey outside of New England and is slowly turning the tide here in New England to being the best option.

Not even sure how this is a debate. Play your age until you dominate then move up. Tier 3 is not a step up from AAA at the highest levels. It might be a side step but not one up. Scouts from all levels go to U18 games, scouts from D3 colleges go to high end Tier 3, scouts from low end club go to USPHL Elite.

So if end goal is club hockey then elite is a great choice
It's not that simple, of course, especially not in this area, where we really lack strong Midget FS programs. And, the practice times don't always work, depending on your kid's HS schedule and the travel time to get there.

USPHL SHOULD be a good stepping stone to higher level junior. Unfortunately, the local programs aren't running their teams that way. They're suffering from being very badly managed.
