Re: NCDC and EHL Have Ruined NE Junior Hockey

Timmy
Sorry your 20 year old bender got cut
I wish he had! He'd be halfway through college.

That's the problem. They feed the dream, and they lie to these kids. Far too many landing spots that are dead ends.

Once he saw the kinds of schools that were talking to him, and to his teammates, he realized where it was all going, which is nowhere, and decided to go to the college of his choice, sans hockey.

It was different, literally, 2 - 3 years ago. We saw where the kids at the D-III schools he wanted to go to were coming from, and he followed the same path. Except, interest in the NCDC has exploded, which the teams are exploiting. The quality declined with each passing year, and the EHL and USPHL get the backwash.

A couple of things:

1. There is no mystery which schools play D3, what were you expecting.
2. NCDC exploded last season becasue many other "better" leagues in Canada and Prep schools didn't play.

Re: NCDC and EHL Have Ruined NE Junior Hockey

Will be interesting to see the level of play in NCDC this year. Seems that the better players were from other leagues or Prep. Will it be strong again this year or will it be back to pre-covid NCDC?

1. There are good D-III academic schools, and bad ones. There are good D-III hockey programs, and bad ones. Right now the players in the EHL and USPHL Premier aren't going to good schools.

2. It exploded pre-COVID. It's gotten worse every year in terms of the operating model. Yes, last year was the worst. But it started before last year.

Re: NCDC and EHL Have Ruined NE Junior Hockey

New England junior hockey was always a joke. Before the NCDC and EHL, you had the Eastern Joke Hockey League which was a similar "rip off the parents and live the dream" league. The teams there routinely lost to outside competition (prep schools and NAHL) before the latter refused to play them anymore. In the rare event one of the players went to a D1 school, they were always healthy scratches and never received any scholarship money.

Thankfully we have the Generals, Nordiques, and Jr. Hat Tricks giving New England REAL junior hockey.

Re: NCDC and EHL Have Ruined NE Junior Hockey

Rare D1? Healthy scratches? Wanna here a joke?
Forget NCDC but the list from the old EJHL to play in the NHL is a long one. Look it up.

Re: NCDC and EHL Have Ruined NE Junior Hockey

NAHL is a good league no doubt.
It is not the promised land.
Plenty of NAHLplayers scrambling and will be truly lucky to land on D3 rosters.
It was bad and getting worse the COVID hit.
The next 3 yrs will be brutal with trickledown from high end D1 to lower end D3.
Truly relieved son is on the inside looking out.

Re: NCDC and EHL Have Ruined NE Junior Hockey

people have to realize that d3 now is like d1 was 25 years ago.

People also need to realize that 95% of these "commits" will never see D1 college ice.

Re: NCDC and EHL Have Ruined NE Junior Hockey

USA Hockey, Mass Hockey, and affiliates have ruined Jr hockey in NE. Same as Jr hockey ruined HS hockey. Things change and the old school fails to adapt. No one has sanctioned a true tier 2 Jr league in New England. Which is nuts. This is the hotbed of college hockey. NAHL isn't viable here. There needs to be an east coast equivalent. And it isn't ehl. That crap show can't even manage itself..
