Yes. And it’s true.
I think everyone has their answer now about club hockey and how well they can compete with NCAA programs, UMass Boston beat URI 6-0, and the shots were 67-11. UMB is usually a better than average D3 progrm,, URI, is usually a top notch Club Hockey program in the northeast and the country. I think the club hockey dads have their answer now. Now go enjoy those large crowds down south!
No dog in this fight but the OP predicted the result and wondered whether URI would be able to compete against weaker NCAA D3 teams. According to the ACHA website, URI is currently ranked #25 so not a very strong team this year even in the ACHA. Most of the UMB players have tier 2 junior experience but there are D3 teams with more players from tier 3 junior leagues. I guess we'll see if ACHA 25th ranked URI can compete against those teams. UMB website says the final was 5-0 and includes video of the game.
Obviously the Club teams don't have 21 year old freshmen or players who were recruited to play.
Can the top ACHA kids play D-3 hockey - absolutely, without a problem. Do most Club teams have 20 of these kids? No chance.
Now enjoy the game with the 47 people in attendance and convince yourself your kid is playing big time 'college hockey.'
D-3 Dad never left. So how's the hockey going up at that backwater, no name school you're so proud of? Hear the coeds have bought-out all the flannel shirts from the General Store in town.
on 12/29 UMB beats URI ACHA 5-0
on 12/30 UMB beats Post 7-0
URI ACHA better than Post?
Post would beat URI by 10. They wouldn't hold back like UM-B did
