Bad

Awhile back someone asked a question about whether local state university men's hockey could make a comeback to their glory days.

UVM 3-12 -2
UNH 8- 10- 1
U MAINE 2 -11 -4

Answer is a resounding NO!

Re: Bad

And UMass ( current ncaa champs) is 10-4 -1. What’s your point?

Re: Bad

I think the point would be the above 3 suck and have for years. Plenty of good college hockey for men around here but those 3 aren't it. Other poster is right. You see their staff everywhere but they don't pick the right kids. Far too much history in those programs to have those kinds of records.

My son must be a terrible player because he cant even get a look from these teams. Ouch!

Re: Bad

The funny part is, these teams send scouts all over the place and local kids get overlooked. Couldn't be any worse. But we said the same thing about UMass 5-6 years ago.

Mens college hockey is far too easy on their coaches in general. Can you imagine a past National Champion D1 football program with those above records year after year? Coach would be gone in a heartbeat. In hockey they just stay and stay and stay. Unacceptable.

Re: Bad

Coaches stay and stay? UVM’s coach is practically brand new. Last years covid year was his first and he’s basically rebuilding a program from the ground up. Patrick Sharp is on the bench now too. A little time will tell.

Isnt that what every coach is supposed to do? We heard that with UNH too right? Since the new UNH coach we have seen a 6-14 year, a 15-15, 12-15 and a 10-20. Quite a rebuild he has going on. How about a team like Princeton? 59-113-21 in the last 8 years. Guys make hundreds of thousands of dollars with University perks for those records? If you cant turn around a program over a 4 year period you should be out. That is all your recruiting class by the 4th year. Guy above is right. D1 football you would be gone.

But is Princeton looking to be like Enormous D1 football academy filling 80,000 seat stadiums? Athletics take a back seat at Ivy League schools. They have academic standards that may keep some players out. They then play some HE schools that take a different approach.

Re: Bad

One problem everyone is aware of is that many times the best players are not the ones selected. We've all seen it, two players always even and side by side since 9 but one goes on and one doesn't. Someone knows someone, someone is an alum, someone's dad pla*** for so and so, someone had a good year at 16 but can't keep up at 20. The list goes on.

My point is its really easy to pack it in with these kinds of "easy" picks that many times don't work out, but much harder to do the work and find the kids that can really play a few years from now.

Re: Bad

All politics regarding who goes where. Who you know blah blah. The best goalie the last 4 years in college hockey didn't get one bite from any East Colleges except HC who then lied to him and caused a huge commotion when he called them out on it. He won his appeal from the NCAA and went West.
NZ and the other brain thrust scouting services called him an undersized goalie who didn't understand how to play according to his size. "Lacks quickness and the ability to read the play". Umm yea ok. Look up Dryden McKay.
